  • What to do about the Gaians

    Re: the Gaians:

We, the Junior officers of the Junta, declare that we are pissed off passed out from worrying what the Gaian response will be to our Treaty overtures.

We furthermore are resolved to teach those nature loonies a lesson in manners and respect

Thus we are polling the Junta for informed opinions by all the old farts senior officers

By order of Major Googlie, Recording Officer to the Junta

I voted for pact/backstab with the knowledge that we will be attacking the university instead. All I know is we need to bonk somebody, or risk falling behind. so we can be nice to the gaians...for now.

I will vote pact/backstab. We probably don't want to attack these guys for a long time, we should fry the Uni first and after that I'd sooner see us attack any of the other two humans than Gaia. So a pact seems good...

I agree, friends for now looks like a bright idea. Attacking the Gaians right now would certainly destroy any future attempts to negotiate with anyone, we'd become the villains of the game. Not that that's a bad thing, but we'd become villains way, way too early for it to be anything but dangerous.

I voted for a true pact until there's only the 2 of us left, and its time to shake hands and say "may the best team win"

If we'd sign a pact, what would be our position regarding the Hive-Gaian war?

I think that eventually we'd be drawn into it, as the Hive, assuredly, would demand that we break Pact, and when we didn't, declare vendetta on us.

(But mayve that's part of an attraction to the gaians, a 2-pronged war agaisnt the Hive, them from the south and us from the north - after all, the Jungle is prime real estate)

In that case, would it be wise to delay pacting with the Gaians until we are ready for a probe rape on the Hive, so that we don't get into a new conflict before we're ready for it? Certainly now we're thinking of sending our best forces to the University, a second front would be annoying I think.

Yeah. We should deal with the Uni first. I'm sure the Gaians would understand this and our reasoning for it. They certainly don't appear to be in a hurry over it, since they can hold out their own against them. As long as that real estate doesn't fall into the wrong hands.

I voted for true Pact all the way until the endgame, and then fight it out between us two in one huge last battle.

This is all assuming, of course, that the Gaians can be trustworthy pactmates. So far, their refusal to give us a diplo message after our trade offer is not a good sign. But the basic rationale behind this is that the Gaians are the ones that I'd most want to face in a 2 human endgame, mainly because our morale advantages over them would tip the battle in our favor. With the other two, we'd be fighting at a tech and secret project disadvantage, most likely.

Yes, we will eventually engage in a two-front war with the Hive. I'd say once we have missle weapons, we'll be ready to take on that behemoth.

not a bad idea. I like to play it by ear though. Things could change 40 or 50 turns from now.

I haven't voted yet, cause I think it's a little premature at this point.

How long do we have before this poll times out?

I'll start here, cause it's the lowest with today's date. (You guys just move to fast for people like me...)

I haven't voted, because I really *can't*. This poll is moot anyway, now that we have soon contact with all human factions, it looks like the Gaians may be playing with the Angels, which we did not assume or know yet when the poll was started.
