  • Krysia's Krusader Reporting For Duty!

    Hey, fellow team mates...

    Just got here.

Skanky Burns ran an intel op on me, and figured that I may be worth the trouble of being allowed in here

I'm going to need a while to read everything that's here, and catch up to where your all at.

In the mean time; If you could all be so kind and answer some questions from a new recruit... (Don't worry, when I'm up to speed, you'll love me )

#1. Which thread(s) is most pressing for attention?

#2. Where's the list giving our membership? (I want to know our strengths and experience.)

#3. Is there a membership list to the other factions? (We need to know who we're up against.)

#4. My computer has the darndest time trying to load the pages here. Is there another way for me to access this forum other than through Apolyton? (Sorry. I'm good at SMAC(X), but crap with computers...)

#5. Can I be a Kaptain? Or do I have to start as a Korporal?

    Thanks

    Krysia's Krusader

    Oh! Yeah...

I don't want to sound presumptious or nothin', being the new kid on the block and all...

But the first thing we have to do - is get rid of that "Fall of Sparta" thread.
This is what it means to be a Spartan. It's not the killing or the suffering that matters. It's the purity of focus, without fear of death or pain.

    Welcome, KrysiasKrusader!

Indeed, the Fall of Sparta has been heroically averted. Let it remain as a testament to our determination.

I'm sorry, I can't answer your questions right now, gotta get to school on time, but I'll have a more thorough reply later today.

Civ IV is digital crack. If you are a college student in the middle of the semester, don't touch it with a 10-foot pole. I'm serious.

      Welcome Krysia's Krusader!!

#1. Which thread(s) is most pressing for attention?
There's a topped Factional Datalinks thread where you'll find links to many useful threads.
If you're especially interested in the latest gameplay and strategy discussions, I'd recommend to have a look at the latest posts of the Game Discussion and Covert Ops threads, and also the Foreign Office.

Besides that there's of course the turn itself to see how we're doing. The password is "domination".

#2. Where's the list giving our membership? (I want to know our strengths and experience.)
#3. Is there a membership list to the other factions? (We need to know who we're up against.)
In the main AC-Democracy Team Game forum you see at the top the names of the different participating human factions, with right next to those in brackets a number. That number is the member count of that faction. When you click on the number, you get a full list of the members of that faction.

Here in Sparta the most active members the latest week or so have been Zeiter, Googlie, Kassiopeia and me. Snoddasmannen, Dissident and Skanky have also posted in the Fall of the Sparta thread. Hopefully they'll soon post more soon.
With you with us we have a great core group of active members.

#4. My computer has the darndest time trying to load the pages here. Is there another way for me to access this forum other than through Apolyton? (Sorry. I'm good at SMAC(X), but crap with computers...)
Unfortunately not at the moment. Though there are alternatives we could seek out to discuss the game. For example Googlie's Spartan site has a chat. Or we could set up an mIRC #sparta channel on the apolyton or CGN server. IIRC long ago Kassiopeia offered to create one over at CGN if desired.

Perhaps another alternative could be to ask buster (the creator of this ACDG btw) if we could have a Spartan private forum at CGN too? Apparently participation and involvement at CGN is rather low these days, so who knows he would be more than happy to give us one.

(Yeah I know at the start of the ACDG I advocated for no off-site private fora, but my opinion about that changed when IIRC two months back or so Poly was down half the time due to a too busy server... )

#5. Can I be a Kaptain? Or do I have to start as a Korporal?
You can most certainly start as a Kaptain if you want! All of us have started as at least a captain as we're more or less roleplaying as the head of the military or Junta government.

      Question from CGN:

Geee... Thanks buddy. Would I get my own recon rover to play with?
As a matter of fact yes! Just have a look at our base and unit inventory. Currently the recon rover brigade Warwag is still without a commander. (As commander you could also rename the unit if you'd want). Or if you want to command some other units, heck, at the moment you could become Major of the whole Infantry Corps, as no one has volunteered yet to become Captain of an infantry brigade.

        Hi Zeiter! (Whoever you are.)

I guess we'll get to know each other soon enough...

Thanks whole bunches for that, very well prepared reply of yours, Maniac (big thumbs up!).

It will save me a lot of time - till I can read everything that's here.

There sure is a lot of names appearing here that I have no idea what they're like...

I thought I had already met most of the people who play SMAC(X). These must be mostly people who only play single player games, then... (?)

Or have I been away for that long...?

        Anyhoo...

A few more stupid recruit questions...

1). Is there any way that I can keep my membership here a secret from the rest of the people? I guess not since my name now appears when you click the number next to our faction name (darn)...

2). Setting up another private forum somewhere else would be a good idea that I would support for these reasons:

        - Apolyton is too tough for my computer to handle. It's the only place where I have problems compared to anyplace else on the net!

        - If this forum does go down. It would be nice to have somewhere else to go, in the meanwhile.

I'll be downloading the turn later on tonight. That will probably tell me more than anything else, right now.

Okay. Now then. Back to reading everything that's here...

Not too many names I recognize... And probably not too many of them recognize me

But I do see that Ogie Oglethorpe is on the list. I hope he comes around...

Anyways. This is an opportunity for all of us to get to know one another.

Well, I sure like what I've seen so far from; you, Zeiter, Googlie, and Kassiopeia !

That was kind of a little joke, for the people reading that thread at CGN, you know...

I think my services would best be utilized in the "Office Of Strategic Planning For Eventual World Domination By The Spartan Federation" - or whatever the Junta has designated as such.

              More annoying new recruit questions...

It just dawned on me that I better check the rules.

              - Total freedom in Design Workshop, including crawler upgrade (upgrades anytime, during turn or on-field)

I was pretty surprised to see anytime. Why are they allowing that? You can do some real nasty things with this, you know...

              - Choppers are never allowed to attack bases.

Was this put in cause "drop & chop" is now considered too lethal?

              - It's not allowed to perform probe actions on a base that from one faction revolted to another human faction, unless the new owner decides and announces to keep the base. If the faction doesn't want the base that revolted to them, they have to gift it to an AI of their choice directly after receiving it if possible. If not possible, they have to starve the base and build a colony pod in order to destroy it, again as soon as possible (without hurrying). While disassembling the base, the new owner has the right though to sell off any facilities present in the base.

              This one looks suspiciously familiar.
Is this the "Question of Ethics" from CGN?

Hehehe, you sure can. Which reminds me, maybe we should wait until our transports approach Zakland before we upgrade our rovers with impact weapons. That way, if our transports get sunk by an IOD or something, we won't have lost all of those ECs.

Was this put in cause "drop & chop" is now considered too lethal?
Yes, hopefully now choppers won't be such a game-breaker.

And that probing a revolting base rule was very much needed. Yeah, I think I did see something over at CGN similar to it.

Indeed. Hopefully this'll result in a more interesting research and combat-tactical game than a mere race to choppers, as many PBEMs sometimes end up being.

For the same reason the Cloudbase Academy was removed btw. No more sudden immunity for one faction to drop units.

There are lots of SMACers who only came here the last two years or so. Only a couple are also active at CGN, and many stick to multiplaying at Poly only.

I'd support it. As I only have limited internet time from now on, I don't really have the time to do the necessary stuff to get one though. Perhaps you could start a new thread to get more people's opinions about this?

I know I know. I just wanted to make you aware of the possibility.

I can always re-activate the original off-'Poly forum I set up some time ago

(and don't forget that we also have our private website, with its own Chatroom

Go here for the Spartan Federation website

                      Oh yeah!

                      Okay. I've bookmarked it.

That's cool then Googlie. The Spartan site will serve fine in case of emergency.

And you even put my name on the list!

I guess that makes me an official member of the Junta!!

Btw, a tip to reduce loading time of threads:
Go to Control Panel > Edit Options > Default Posts Per Thread, and set it to 10 instead of the standard 30. In my experience there are rarely more than 10 new posts in ACDG threads between two visits, so by clicking on "last page", you usually still get all the new stuff to read.
