Growth and turn advantage are both important this early in the game. That leaves purple as the best choice.

So, wait a second, we're planting base #5 on the Rio Grande? I thought we were planting it 2 tiles north of Sparta Command, at the source of the Eurotas River. Although that site on the Rio Grande would make an excellent site. But it seems like an awfully long hike to get there: 3-4 turns from Santiago Citidel, and 5 turns from Sparta Command. Whereas the other base is only 1 turn away from Santiago Citidel, and 2 turns from Sparta Command. And both would be equally productive. Are starting to be less strict with regards to close spacing spacing and getting bases planted quickly? Should we shift our focus away from base founding speed right now?
Just having two crater bases for a while would be okay with me.
I don't really see why we'd plant a base at site #8, except for the fact that it would give access to the other ocean. A more productive base site would be along the western coast near the fungal pass. Do you think the ocean access is that important? I don't know, maybe. It would be nice to start exploring that half of the world.
That's a nice little bay there by Yang's territory. I wonder how far in that goes? Surely Yang will have a base planted along it.Civ IV is digital crack. If you are a college student in the middle of the semester, don't touch it with a 10-foot pole. I'm serious.

Regarding wanting less Crater bases or wanting to have them later, we could always found only three instead of four crater bases, allowing us to build more bases elsewhere sooner.
If we'd only build three bases, and build the third on the NE crater bonus tile, an extra advantage would be that the eastern and northern most of the nine crater bonus tiles could be worked by other non-crater bases. For example Santiago Citadel, and a more northern base (base nr7?).
Btw, Googlie, besides the base not bordering to a sea fungus tile, is there any other reason why you would prefer base nr7 to be at the mouth of RÃo Grande? I'm just wondering because a possible Base Nr7 location as on the attached picture below would have access to a rolling&rainy&river (56.14) and a bonus crater tile (53.15), while at the river mouth the most productive tile would be a 2-1-0 rolling&rainy (55.9). And the fungal tile could be easily removed at a later date if we wanted by a sea former.
