    In past civilization games, a base being less than 5 squares never worked for me.I once had around 60 cities in Test of Time in the fantasy game.(Which is probably the reason why I got so many based on this post)

    Forgive me for not knowing your technical knowledge as I respond. If any of this needs elaboration, let me know.

    Spacing and base-count is still being discussed. We have the PTS and PEG projects, so every new base is a powerhouse compared to the other factions. We don't have a huge continent, though, and if we went past 27 bases, pop-booming becomes extremely difficult. Another key issue is that if we went from our current 18 bases to 27 bases (from the 2nd to 3rd beauracracy limit), we'd need to boost psych a lot, draining labs and cash.

    Right now, we're worried about defenses instead of colony pods, since the Spartans clearly have some offensive cabability now.
