  • Troubling News - Spartan Infiltration?

Googlie posted this in the embassy.

I'm not too happy about it.

Although I believe we have grounds for Vendetta, I intend to not post anything until I calm down and consider our response.

Right now I think our response will include returning the favor to Sparta.

Let's be calm, cold, and calculating.

We need to consider and discuss our response before we respond.

I'm thinking that we should get the turn before we do or say anything. Then we should figure out what to do next.

Captain Primus Pilus stroked his beard thougthfully as he pondered the transcript of the secure commlink message from Lt. Col Maniac.

"Poor bastards," he muttered under his breath. "I wonder if Mr. Moneypenny was among them"

"Sir?" asked his Exec, Lieutenant Adams.

"Morgan Eudaimonics" came the gruff reply. "Lost their Defense Attorneys when Googlie's covert operations team went to work. Moneypenny had talked so proudly of them. A compromise, he said. Fitted with flak jackets, and doubling as police as well as psi-controllers, to save the disgruntlement that Morganites get when they see military in their bases - or even worse, away from them. But armed only with truncheons and their own wits.

"Moneypenny said that a new class, with synthmetal body armour, had been developed, but they weren't yet in service at Eudaimonics."

"Would they have survived the attempted infiltration if they'd had that body armour then?" asked his Exec.

"No," Pilus replied. "Googlie never does anything by half measure. That'd have been an Elite team he'd sent, all fired up with this new notion of the Fundamental right of the Spartan Federation to act as the only Global superpower. They wouldn't have stood a chance."

The exec grunted in sympathy. He'd come to quite like Mr. Moneypenny, arguing as they had done in the short Chiron evenings, over the relative merits of Wealth versus Power. He knew that Moneypenny had been an integral part of the Morgan covert operations structure himself, and, like his Captain, just hoped that he'd somehow survived the infiltration casualties.

"I just hope that this doesn't degenrate into a vendetta with them," said the Exec.

"I hope not, too," the Captain replied. "But I think that both our factions have too much to offer each other for it to degenerate to that. To get even, either Morgan will send their 'Gators our way - and the Lt. Col is surely prepared for that - or, as Moneypenny said, they'll soon be Planetary Governor anyway, so will have infiltration on everyone without needing to expend probe units trying."

"But lets get the maps out and see where we fit into this new Modo Doctrine the Lt Colonel talks about"

They turned on their heels, and went below, to the Hunter's command room.

Hm, that explains the message "We have won 1 battle and lost 1 battle."

They know we cannot even dream of going to war with them soon. Maybe it´s a test? They want to see our reaction so they know whether or not we are easy meat...

Maybe we should suspend the 15 ec back-end payment for the PK commlink, until we determine there is no danger of attack.

I have not yet downloaded and looked at the turn yet.

Based upon Micha's efforts it looks like we will have good success with the PK (Kudo's to Micha).

I think we also need to recheck our diplomatic options with Uni and Hive.

I am thinking of approaching Googlie full of hurt, disappointment, and sadness over the fact that they could do such a thing.

I will expect them to pay damages for the injury they caused us.

This means they pay for the loss of the probe.

Help me out folks with how much it costs.

Additionally, I will ask them to allow us to infiltate them in return.

Assuming they will not agree to a return infiltration, I will propose a Pact (we got nothing to lose and much to gain assuming we have been infiltrated).

Assuming we cannot agree on an appropriate settlement we will withold future payments until we are satisfied.

If we do not have adequate assurances that we will not be subject to future hostile actions they we should withold all future payments to Sparta. It makes no sense sharing any more money with them if they will only use it to kill us.

My bottom line for continuing payments to Sparta:

          1. Adequate compensation for Probe.
          2. Promise of no future hostile action fr period of 10 years.
          3. Return infiltration of Sparta or Pact.

They drew first blood. They are in breach of the treaty.

I intend to post my response to them in about 6 hours. Please give me some feedback.

We are not in a position to make demands. I have not looked at the power graph.

A one move probe team would cost us 50 EC.

If the Spartans really are going to run for (and win) the governership in the immediate future, then we can tone down our concerns.

I don't remember us (or them) specifically promising not to infiltrate. Infiltration is perfectly legal.

I don't see why they would accept a Pact if offered it. If they want our economic strength, they'd be best to conquer us.

The Spartans have said they are an evil faction. I wonder if there is any truth to that...

I'm not to upset about the infiltration.

I am uspet with the destruction of the probe team.

I want assurances that we will not be attaked again.

If we can't get that, then why keep supplying them so that they can better defeat us.

I want to have a meek and mild tone, but I realize that they probably would not have been able to infiltrate us without our financial assistance.

With continued financial assistance what will they be able to do?

Both ignore us right now... (Though in case of the Hive that´s pretty good, me thinks)

I guess I can't really play the turn until they respond. Please shoot me a PM when they do.

Regarding the term "Modo Doctrine," "modo" is Latin for "now." It could also be a form of "modus," which is "means," "method," or "measure." (Maybe an "end justifies the means" type of thing, or a "measurement (i.e. infiltration) doctrine?")

I'm Moving Postings Back to the Main Spartan Diplomacy Thread

As the title says, I'm moving the discussion back to the main thread.

I'll post the message I just put in the Spartan Embassy there.
