    FROM: Chairman Vander, Stockholder
    DATE: 14:01, 4/17/04
SUBJECT: Intelligence gathering of Opposing factions

Saturday, 11:00, It was raining outside. I sure as hell wasn't going out there, so I decided to troll the Public Forums at Poly to gleam what I could from the other faction's threads. Nothing terribly important, but there were a few insightful items that can lead to some conclusions of their future behavior. Here's what I got:

    SPARTANS

    Recruits:
    Jamski
    Skanky Buns
    Maniac
    DeathByTheSword
    GeneralTacticus
    Ogie Oglethorpe
    GeoModder(?)

    - Each person has contol over a unit (or more)
    - They'll have a "Supreme Commander"
    - RPing up a "Freedom, Liberty, etc." bit
    - Speak alot about the planet being hostile

    Thoughts:
    - Possible conflicts with the Gaians. A "Hostile v. Love" kind of thing.
    - I don't see any real idiological conflicts
    - Possible Merc. thing going should UnO and MWiA join. We'll have money; so we should think of them as a probable ally.

    GAIANS
    Recruits:
    - obstructor
    - Cosmic
    - Laurentius
    - Hydro
    - Enigma_Nova

    - Not really much talent in this team
    - No talk of pre- planning; too concerned with low numbers
    - E_N a loose cannon. He wants to do what he wants, not what the team wants.

    Thoughts:
    - I may be wrong, but I don't see too many vets of the DG's here.
    - Rookie team
    - I see them being a little hostile to us for being anti- green (Just doesn't make money)
    - I doubt they'll be a strong team, as of now. However, the Gaians are a stong faction to play, so don't count them out until we see them.
    - Early Mindworm rush comes to mind...

    DATA ANGELS
    Recruits:
    Hercules
    HongHu
    Mellian
    Trithemius
    foolish_icarus
    mart7x5

    - "Anti- Tyrannical"
    - Will definatly infiltrate us
    - Broke off of Morganites

    Thoughts:
    - They'll go for the Empath Guild. It gives them infiltration on all of the factions; which equates to them having the planetary datalnks
    - UnO and MWiA are also thinking of this faction, giving them a Merc. flare.
    - I can see them being with us and against us, so they're a wild card

I think the other factions will be wary of us. We're the only true builder faction (right?) in the game, so we're going to be mighty powerful if we have the right set of circumstances. Also, we have ideological differeces with the DAs and Gaians, that'll come out in RP and diplomacy, so we better watch ourselves there. Other than that, I'll end my report

    END

Vander, you make some really good points

I have to disagree slightly with your assesment of the Gaians though. From what I know of enigma nova, he has far too much time on his hands, and spends enough of it playing SMAX to actually be quite good. He'll try and use every trick in the book to win I think. I see the Gaians as being a very strong faction for as long as they can put up with him.

Also, I can see us RP being very hostile to the Spartans and Gaians, although hopefully not the DA. Spartans because we're certainlly gonna run wealth, Gaians because I sure hope we FM. (FM Wealth Morgan = more cash than you would believe. Research can even be better than the uni at a comparable stage.) We need to deal with that before we get into a war, and I suspect, heavily guard ourselves against the Gaians as soon as we can.

I can also the the Spartans trying a rover rush early on, and the DA a probe raping early (possible beeline to flex, then probe for IA.) In fact, I can see planet being VERY hostile to the Morganites. We'd better be nice to the Ai (But not too nice, cos they'll get probe raped too...)

If we can get 40 years of isolation, we should win easily, being the builder faction. If not, we might be fighting an uphill battle on three fronts. Theres a distinct reason why Morgan looses a lot of MP games, and it isn't because he's a bad mid->late game faction...

    Chaunk:

    I agree with your assessment.

I play Morgan a lot in PBEMs, and I have to say that I fasttrack to probe teams (infantry-chassis defensive ones - "Apprentices" I name them) - in some of my PBEMs the Empath Guild is disabled - as I did in this ACDG - and probe action becomes a major part og the gameplay

I've also been in a couple of games with MoSe (MariOne here)who is a formidable Morgan player - developed the concept of undefended interior bases - and never got mindworm-raped nor chop/dropped. I've e-mailed him to see if he's interested in playing, but have had no reply

It'll be good to get our official private 'poly forums up and running so that we can brainstorm strategy

Mongoose is a similarly formidable Morgan player. It may be worth dropping him a line perhaps.

I've been told by...other people that a large number of Spartans may consider joining the Gaians.

And I think it'd be a shame if the Spartans lost their "quorum" - Ogie is a formidable player (in my opinion, the best of all of us who are engaged in this ACDG) and it'd be fun trying to survive as Morgan if we crossed swords with him as Sparta

Speaking of which, it seems unlikely to me that Morgan is going to survive.

Perhaps I'm just pessimistic, but we have no military bonuses at all!

We can make do without the military bonuses of the other teams. When we can't have quality, we'll have to use quantity.

Or rather, we can do our best to avoid conflict until it is on our terms...

With our vast wealth we can support having all morale boosting facilities in all bigger bases. Then we build lots of clean units while running might as SE choice. It might get hard but it´s not impossible.

Also, we could shoot for the Command Nexus as out SP. That'll almost erase our poor morale problem.

    Updates:

With the Addition of HongHu and Oglie to the Gaian team they should no longer be considered as weak as before. Likewise with Enigma Nova out they may be less agressive and more build oriented, much will depend on who inside the faction rises to power.

Also I suspect the Spartans will tend towards reckless agression, Many of the Cycon members in the teams played like that in the last game and beat up the Pirates badly and made a profitable conquest (mostly due to the PEG) but it came at the cost of sacrificing much of their long term builder potential by neglecting crawlers, formers and nearly all facilites along with Buracracy Deone problems. The Hive/Drone build up was by then too far progressed to be stoped. Our strategy with Sparta should be to make shure we are not the FIRST target they go after and then build up as they get involved in their war, if they fail to make good economic desisions the war will cost them in the long run even if they crush their victims.

Well the problem will be that the others will pick the easiest targets first, and before clean reactors we are :/

    anywayw we can hope

Judging from these team makeups, the Spartan faction is going to be the greatest opponent to overcome, IMO. Besides being against us Roleplay wise, they've got pretty much an all-star lineup of experienced players, many of whom are *very* experienced with Morgan, and can be expected to play to that strength.

It's hard to judge the strength of the Angels and Gaians from my perspective I'll admit, though I personally see Darsnan as the best Gaian player around thesedays, so he may very well inspire them to heights.
