    Vander
Well folks, I may be the only one, but I'm a little bored waiting for this game to start, so this little thing is just for $h1ts and giggles: Tell us what you want to tell about yourself. I'd like to see honesty (it's the best policy ) just because there isn't a real reason to lie to your teammates. I'll start:

I'm Vander, a 19 yr old College Student attending the University of Idaho (It's in Moscow, a town on the Idaho/ Washington Border, about halfway up the 'panhandle'; USA if you didn't guess already :P ). I am studying Political Science and Sociology in the hope of being a lawyer someday. I like to play strategy games like Civ 3, MoO 3, and SMAC. I also am active in Tae Kwon Do and enjoy frisbee and good parties on the weekends.

-- I am who I say I am. I think, therefore I am. Therefore, all things I say are thoughtful and have meaning.

    Googlie
    Good idea Vander

I'm Googlie, aka Rynn, The_Progenitors, Slats, Paula Forbes and Gayle Storm (all MarkG approved D/L's as part of Apolyton's The Spartan Chronicles narrative.

Mainly active these days just as Googlie

I just turned 60 last month, retired early four years ago, and spend summers in Vancouver, Canada and winters in Palm Springs, California (yes, I'm a golfer)

Before retirement, I was an Executive Compensation Consultant for one of the top3 Human Resource Consultancies, specializing in Board and executive pay plans, incentive comp and stock option plans.

I mainly play smac/x and C3C. Enjoy science fiction and have dabbled in authoring (but nothing published)

    jtsisyoda
Hey, Yoda here, aka jtsisyoda, and IRL aka Jeremy, Ice Man, Ogre, Lurch. I'm 29, live in Ohio, USA. I'm in pharmaceutical manufacturing, used to be a computer programmer, lab tech before that, physics student before that. I like sports, science fiction, strategy games like chess and SMAX, movies, and i have dabbled in martial arts and poetry.

    Chaunk
Chaunk here, aka. Mike Blakemore. Currently doing a second gap year working for a church in London before I head off to uni - artificial intelligence & Computer science - in Sheffield (England natch). I too enjoy SMAX (shocking isn't it!) as well as various other strategy games (computer and board).

It's currently raining here, which is a shame 'cos it's a bank holiday.

    Impaler
Impaler here, Kenny Ferland in RL. Im 22 and work as a QA in a small Plastic Injection Molding company (so we must have a base for me to manage called "Impaler Plastics" or "Impaler Polymers" or "Impaler PlastaSteel"). I live in Tucson Arizona but am originaly from North Carolina, been out here for about 5 years now. When to the University of Arizona for 1 year studying Geology but droped out and am now considering programing. I am interested in a variety of Strategy game mostly RTS which SMACX being the only big TBS game I play and the only CiV game I play. I like classic Science Fiction books and movies, camping and hiking, italian food and Jimmy Buffett music.

I am currently working on a SMACX mod many of you may have noticed, the IMPACX MOD. It will involved some VERY heavy alphax editing and new tecs and buildings, lots of balance changes and the activation of several "dormant" game play mechanics. Stay tuned for further releases.

    Archaic
Archaic here, Liam Pomfret IRL. 19 years old, currently taking the third year of my Bachelors degree in International Business from the Queensland University of Technology, in Brisbane, Australia, as an exchange student, studying at Meijo Daigaku, in Nagoya, Japan. An Anime nut, who used to play Ad&d and Warhammer back in high school (Don't have the time or the other people for it these days). SMAC/X was really the first turn based game I played, though I've since dabbled a bit in GalCiv and Superpower.

    AndiD
AndiD here, Andi Drechsler in RL. I'm 22 and live in Germany. Currently I am studying Business Informatics at the University of Duisburg-Essen focusing on management and information systems.

I've stumbled only very recently upon Apolyton (a few days ago) and SMAC/X (about mid-april 2004) when I was looking for a game to improve my strategic and diplomatic thinking a bit (it works BTW!). Before that I played a real-time space business & economy sim for about half a year (X-Beyond the Frontier/X-Tension).
Besides my studies I'm working for a student consulting network, enjoy Star Trek (in books, on TV oder on screen), reading books (sci-fi, crime, ...) or magazines.

Unfortunately I won't be able to dedicate too much time per day and since I'm on "very green" status about role-play multiplayer SMAX I will first have a look how things are played here...

    Fazdaar
Heya, Fazdaar here, Bryce Aona IRL. 19, computer science student at Notre Dame, live in Ohio. I love playing video games, especially RPG's but also TBS (of which SMAX is all I play). I have no experience in MP with SMAX, since no one else in my town plays video games at all and I simply have not been active enough to really participate in any previous DG's. Been a member of Apolyton for around 3 years, but I don't think I've even made 10 posts yet, everyone else there is so knowledgeable I simply have nothing to contribute, so basically a huge lurker. Similarly I've had SMAX for 3 years or so but relatively unknowledgeable about the intricacies of the game because I usually only play in 1 or 2 month spurts before I turn back to SWG or Diablo II. Generally I don't have the patience to micromanage my games to a significant degree, 1. because I've only ever played SP and its not necessary, and 2. I just want to hurry up and get to the juicy parts of the tech tree, namely the late game. I have, however, read Vel's guide 3 or 4 times and keep relatively up to date on Apolyton, so I may be able to contribute an idea here or there.

    endgame
17, SMA(C/X) experience -> 0. Morgan is my faction of choice and so I'm here for the learning. At the same time, I dislike MicroSoft (how's that for a paradox?). <1 PBEM to my name. Australian National University Software Engineering student, first year. DOS & Bootdisk nut, who still tries to get people to play DOOM.

OT: can someone email/PM me a link so I can learn how to play SMA(C/X) better? (weldingmaskman -at- hotmail -dot- com.) Thanks.

    ComradeMicha
    Heya, Micha here!

I´m 21 and live in Germany, right at the heart of it in the beautiful forested hills of Thuringia! Here at the Technical University of Ilmenau I´m studying business informatics, just like AndiD (Grüß dich! ).

Well, obviously I like playing SMAC/X, also Civ2 and C3C, StarCraft, EU2, HoI, good old doom () and many others... It´s just hard to find the time for it these days...

Some of you may now me from the CIV 3 world, where I am involved in several PBEMs and just about every Civ$ Demogame there is at Apoly.

This summer is going to be very busy for me, so Im not sure Ill be very active at the beginning.

I do like making lots of energy credits though, and have been known to tip a few xenobrews every once in a while

I might as well do this too

      Drogue
I'm Drogue, AKA Will Brambley IRL. I'm 19, just finishing a gap year (working and retaking A levels), and hopefully going to Oxford in October to study Economics and Management, and thinking of becoming an economist in the Foreign and Diplomatic service, because, eventually doing something with developing economies. But I'm also a trained bartender and counsellor, and will one day buy a chocolate shop, with a bar attached, and start a fairtrade company I'm finishing the gap year by going to Finland on 18th August (missing results day ) for a week

I've played SMAC SP since it came out, and joined the DGI (by accident - I was looking for a copy of the tech tree, and found 'Poly) a couple of months after it started. I have very little multi-player experience though, so I'd get owned by many of the people here.

Most of my life is spent working, on the net, going to various parties/bars, spending ridiculous amounts of money on drinks, debating silly things while listening to strange music with Ben (Whaleboy) and spending as much time as humanly possible time with Louise (Verres). I also play the saxophone.

Hi all, I'm SafaN from Belgium. Yes, that little country that says what others should do

22 years old, currently unlabored and part-time studying as a bookkeeper. Used to play many games, from Halflife over Warcraft3 to Neverwinter Nights. Always gread intrest in tbs because I think to slow to have a chance in those games
Only a few months in smac but played the civ series and CtP and such
Besides gaming i have 1 hobby: reading fantasy: From tolkien to howard and McCaffry.

        Greetz SafaN

BTW SafaN comes from a cult series here where the main persons try to avoid calling the SaTaN by not speaking the T. Becomes hilarious because their name are "Elisabeff and Fhomas Fimmermans" Guess that joke wont translate well though

          Let's join the fray!

          Phenix

Hi, Phenix here or Dries Belet IRL. I live in Belgium (great country, lots of inhabitants here @ apolyton i have noticed ) in the city of Hasselt.
I'm 19 and I'm a student commercial engineer (in the end of my 1st year now) at the university of Leuven. For those who don't know it- it's basically applied economics with tougher maths and some extra science.

I'm an avid fan of all kinds of strategy games, though I do enjoy a FPS or an RPG from time to time. My favourite computer games at the moment range from SMACX (obviously ) to Age of Wonders 1, Civnet, Axis&Allies:IronBlitz, Medieval:TW, StarCraft(BW) and a little Team Fortress Classic and Day of defeat when I'm feeling in a trigger-happy mood

Other big hobbies of mine are the boy scouts (the guys which I spend the majority of my free time with) and reading good books. I mostly read SF and fantasy... greatly enjoying The Wheel of Time #9 atm. Favourite authors of mine include Tolkien, Raymond E. Feist, David Eddings, Robert Jordan, Martin Georges, Weis&Hickman, Terry Goodkind, Timothy Zahn, Brian Greene, Stephen Hawking, and others(sorry for the long list, I'm bad at choosing )

By the way, I'm also a big film fan... most important thing to say is that I'm a huge fan of both Star Wars and Lord of the Rings. I'm always open for long talks on those two

Anyway, nice to meet you all and see you in Morgan Industries' great stock exchange halls!

            PJayTycy

Hello, I'm PJay, Pieter-Jan Busschaert in real life. I too live in Belgium. I turned 23 some days ago (see Morganlink Mag thread). I'm currently "suffering" examns in my study for Master of Engingeering : Computer Science : Embedded Systems @ University Ghent, Belgium (1 more year to go).

I bought smac when it came out. Don't know exactly why. Maybe because of review in a non-games magazine or just because I liked the sci-fi theme. I surely didn't know anything about the civ-series or sid meier before that.

For the last 5 years, I've only played 2 games very regular : railroad tycoon and smax. It usually varies between those 2 in waves of +/- 4 months. I only recently started a few PBEM's to get some human opponents for smacx.

Hi PJay, it's probably a coincedence, but could you be a relative of Maxime Busschaert?

Keep it up on the exams! I know what you're going through
