I had a look at the latest posted turn, Angels-2168.
Data Angels - From the looks of it they've got balanced infrastructure and terraforming, and have several factions infiltrated. They seem to have very heavy probe defences (2 per base often), a bit more than nesscary considering that they aren't at war yet with any faction and they have probe bonuses. They seem to be doing average for a builder faction no boosting through micromanagement or other techniques. Their current diplomancy seems to be stay out of the fighting. They took one special project the virtual world.
The data angels seem to be staying small and quiet, growing slowly until they will be ready to make their move. They are considering a war against the Hive sometime.
Morgan - Looked at their unit nexus, looks like they lost half of their non-military to the war against sparta. Morgan seemed to have been pursuing a heavy terraforming ICS, several special projects with minimal facilities. There are signs of heavy crawler and terraforming that has been wiped away by spartan attacks. They seemed to have average peace time military before the attacks began. Morgan has recently suffered serious setbacks, as their investments were in crawler and formers these have been mostly eliminated. They also have lost one of the 3 secret projects they had before the war.
Diplomancy wise, morgan believed they could finish the game alone, as they were foremost in production and development. Consequently it was arrogant in it's dealings with the other factions, assuming that spartans wouldn't risk taking the attrition of an early full war. After stealing a boat from spartans, they believed that the lack of rewards from invading the many small bases morgan has would prevent a serious invasion. There is little indication of a serious buildup by morgan for war.
Hive was attacking the morgans with a number of units when I checked the turn. Hive doesn't appear to be attacking anyone else atm.
Spartans are picking off units weaking the morgans without gaining much from it. While they do not gain from attacking morgans they are declawing a serious competitor in the mid to late game. Spartans now feeling that morgans have been pushed backwards sufficiently intend to stop the war as soon as peace talks finish.
Morgans have lost hope from what I can read in their forums. They believe spartans will annihilate them. Their research strategy they are following suggests they are trying to get MMI and choppers and could get choppers soon, although this could be mometum from a previous research plan.
The morgans attempted to play the game with a very strong build stance, in a similar way to the Hive and Drones in ACDG2. However they neglected to pursue diplomancy to the extent needed to protect such a stance and pacify enemies while they were in the vulernable stages. This was the main flaw in their plan. The high number of formers and crawlers make easy pickings for a faction on the war stance.
Spartans - Quite strong right now, they have university under a submissive pact. Peacekeepers are pacted, but when I was forwarding the turns they dropped out of the pact. They have well balanced infrastructure with well developed mineral resources to offset their large military. Several secret projects also under their belt. They have 3 loans out, which equates to an substatinal amount of money that they have invested into infrastructure and war which I believe has given them their current edge over the other factions. I think they also managed to pop quite a few pods.
The spartans took over a large chunk of the university early in the game, and now that part of the university is starting to be productive.
The growth of their faction is somewhat stagnated, but I assume they have a pop boom planned after they get the condensors down. That is assuming that they go back to peace.
I believe before the Morgan spartan war spartans were equal to morgan economically only with a military presence too. Morgans were arrogant enough to believe they were superior economically, although the morgans were probably better geared towards future growth at the time of the spartan attack.
Signs of decent micromanagement economically, although I think their main strength is unit micromanagement. They appear to know how to coordinate their units for greatest effect. I was surprised to find only 2 military units and 1 civilian unit have been destoried.
In addition to the morgan war, spartans appear to be at war with the Gaians. I found an raiding party of the spartans heading towards the Gaians. I haven't read carefully enough so I'm unsure whether the spartans intend to launch a real raid against the gaians. Gaians appear to be obilivious to the fact the spartans may be about to raid them.
Spartans look like they will be winning this game unless the other teams pull together and join forces soon. Their terraforming, facilities, probes and military are well balanced. I feel the growth in each area is just right for the situation.
Gaians - They appear to be playing the game as a single player isolatist. They got to a slow start, and haven't been squeezing the turns for additional benefits. One immediate problem I noticed is the gaians appear to be spending too much effort terraforming. I found that they are building the heavy terraforming projects too early for their current development level, and I don't think they've been expanding enough.
I noticed they haven't explored the rest of the world, with most of the world black, but surprisingly enough nobody else has a decent map of the gaian homeland. Everyone else seems to have gotten decent maps of everyone else's land except for the gaians.
Signs of bad unit management, they appear to have lost several sea units and I think they lost them while pod popping. They should have been more careful and given themselves enough movement to run away if there was a bad pop. Also several mindworms appear to have been lost. Suggesting that they're not healing their mindworms enough before sending them exploring again.Last edited by Kody; April 24, 2005, 07:01.

First Edit: Morganite's will have built the HGP next turn, and pop has increased to 11 following building 2 new bases. This has caused tech research to increase, meaning Doc: Flex in 2140.

I thought we needed an update on how the factions were standing, what was happening, and how it all looks to be going. I'll update this every now and then to see how the factions are getting on and what's happened. I've nicked the tech table from the Angels and filled it in for all factions (bar the AI):

Just built a CP, running FM/Wealth. Fastest tech and energy growing faction, and about to build the HGP in 2139. Busy teching and SP building, as well as infrastructure and crawlers.

The Future
The Spartans are about to get NLM, and probably go killing, either Zak or Hive. Also about to meet most factions, so unless council is called, will have an advantage there. Some decent diplomacy might see them catch up in the tech race, especially if probe raping Zak and/or Hive and Lal. They also have infiltration on the Hive, which could prove useful.
The Gaians will find that the Morganites will build the HGP first, leaving them with enough stuff to build another. I’m guessing they’ll go for the WP, around 2143. I have a feeling Angel diplomacy will become a bit shaky, with Illu’s manner and Geo thinking of ways to do them over. The Angels want the PEG. Both them and the Gaians should get Doc: Flex in 2151. Not sure where Gaian’s are going, but I can see them becoming the submissive of the two in the alliance, due to the war with the Hive, however they are growing better than the Angels, who are worrying (at least Geo is) that they don’t have the skill in their team and may struggle.
The Angels aren’t researching fast, despite preference for research of ec in sliders, and aren’t growing well, due to a lack of Planned. However they are doing good diplomacy, should get Doc: Flex in 2151 and then going for Adapt Econ and the PEG. That’s if the fast teching and building Morganites don’t get there first. If they do get it, they’ve done well, and can come back. If not, they’ll be missing out on research others have and will need some decent diplomacy to get back in it.
The Morganites are in a strong position. They’re researching fast, gaining much ec, and building SPs. Easily the strongest of the factions on their own, turning into an infrastructure powerhouse. Having said that, they’ve met no-one, and meeting the Spartan’s might not go too well. If they gain contact with the Angels and Gaians, they stand a good chance of staying ahead in research. Getting the HGP will help their growth, and they want to go for pop boom via GA, I think. A good strategy. If they can get the PTS, they may be able to outgrow everyone to such an extent that they’ll be too strong to defeat, unless the Spartans and/or a bribed Hive take them out first. With every faction keeping small bases and building many CPs, the PTS will be especially important.
I think the Morganites are strong, but it’s still anyone’s game. Diplomacy will likely clinch it. In having met Zak and Lal, the Spartans are somewhat breaking out, and the Hive being so strong in the middle is hurting the Morganites more, with not being able to meet other factions. Yet it also protects them. If the Spartan war goes well, they’ll be very powerful and hard to stop. However they’ll need to do well to avoid being left behind by the Morganites. If they’re still behind by the time Morgan gets MMI, they’re probably too late. But with decent defences they might hold off long enough to probe rape and catch up.
