Arginine sighed to himself as he drove his small rover through the old wreckage of the once glorious base of Morgan Industries. He had himself to blame in some degree, for he was never able to execute near his full potential. Arginine wondered if he would ever be able to overcome his true weakness. The one thing which is whispered throughout the land only by its initials... R.L.

Arginine thought grimmly to himself, "I will probably go down in history as someone whom advanced the cause of capitalism as much as Karl Marx." Overcome with rage, "Adam Smith! Gordon Gecko! John Maynard Keynes! Andrew Carnegie! Milton Friedman! CEO NWABUDIKE MORGAN! I HAVE FAILED YOU ALL!!!!" Arginine yelled out in rage and desperation to the desolate sky. If only he could change history...

Arginine moped around sad, and relived his memories on planet. Arginine laughed at the use of that psychic 'Yuri' to mind control a loyal Spartan into performing unspeakable acts to the pet fish of one of Sparta's highest commanders. That was pure genous. I wonder happened to that psychic... His swearing about a woman called Tanya.... She must've been an ex girlfriend of his. How she screwed up his time... machine....

        A time machine.

There was a time machine on planet all this time, and it had been ignored. Arginine was ecstatic that he had not told in detail about how Yuri came to be. He had had the time machine moved into a very out of the way place until technology had advanced to the point of making use of it.... Technology has advanced greatly in the last 50 years on planet.

Just MAAAAYYYYYYBEEE it could be put back into service, and Arginine could right his mistakes.

"I can go back to the beginning of civilization, and establish capitalism and the market as the guiding philosophy of a new, enlightened civilization. A civilization that would be spared the horrors of christmas and its shameful giving! A civilzation that would never know of the evils of socialism and medicare!"

Hurredly, Arginine got to his old, yet cheap, needlejet and flew to the time machine's last location. Cruising in low to avoid enemy aircraft which tended to appear in Morganic airspace from time to time. He saw other needlejets were on the groud near the location of the time machine. Arginine landed his needlejet behind a large patch of dead fungus. Crouched, with his binoculars and distance listening device, Arginine surveyed the party standing around the now modified time machine.

Members of the highest echelons of Gaia and The Spartan Federation were all there!
The head of Spartan counter-intelligence 'crypetea'!
The Lord of Progress of the Council of Lords of Gaia!
The famed retired military strategist from Sparta!
A long lost executive from Morgan Industries!

        Talking together in relative harmony!
"I guess those rumors of an alliance of Sparta and Gaia were true" Arginine thought to himself.

In the distance a member of the party boasted "Fwahahaha!! The Longevity Vaccine will be completed soon, giving us long enough life to last a long time. With our advanced technology and this time machine we will go back in time, and RULE earth AS GODS for millenia! Our lower level functionaries can planet. WE WILL HAVE EARTH!

The entire party broke out in maniacal laughter. Arginine had hidden some parts of the time machine in the surrounding area. Only he and Yuri knew what they were and where in the time machine they needed to be. But, maybe the party had gotten the time machine working in spite of that. Arginine wondered, what would he do next....

I'm playing a new civ4 singleplayer. This time I got Pyramids and switchjd to Universal Sufrage.
There is too little gold for significant purchases. Pyramids a re good, but government types are another matter. It is still the same thing, as in smac minerals fuel early game, the same here hammers do. Is really slavery better?

I've played maybe 8 or 9 games now, and just can't bring myself to implement slavery!!

So I don't know how good - or otherwise - it can be

I've found it useful for getting rid of dead-weight population, when either you're bumping against your happiness, or you don't have enough improved tiles to make effective use of some citizens. Even so, population units don't seem to be worth that much production.

You mean that slavery is the strategy preferred in civ4?
The trick with population is a nice application. Notice, that since settlers no longer lower population, there is really no good control over it.
I would add a unit here - migrants - for moving population from city to city. It would not allow you to establish a city, but only add population to existing one.

Purchases are quite expensive. So far I noticed it is like 1:4.5.

I'm for it - while the game would allow 8 civs on a tiny world, it'd be cramped and we'd prolly lose 4 to battles before the switch from BC to AD (unless we had a "no war" clause)

Of course, the objective would be to hone PBEM skills, share strategies and tactics, so maybe conquered players just team up with the conqueror

Are there 8 of us who have the game?

We start with game setting it up. No guarantee for "equal opportunities" but we play training mission anyway.

Everyone can set up the password

email and smtp server as you like. As far as I checked, password changing is available any turn. Nice...I will keep admin one.
