  • OTF links here? (re: Test in the OT)

As Drogue has padlocked Tass' thread I'll open this one to comment.

Many of us don't have either the time - or to be honest, the inclination - to plough through the OT forum, but just occasionally there is a gem there that we'd miss if someone didn't point it out in an on-topic forum.

Such as the one where members posted pics of themselves - I'd never have found that if someone hadn't posted to the multiplayer forum (several of my playing "enemies" pics were there - that was cool)

And this one - I found that link useful and humerous.

So I, for one, appreciated the link.

I though pointing out sufficiently decent threads was allowed. I have advertised OtherGames threads before.
I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).

He should have done it in RecCommons though, this is why we have them.

If the people want it, I'll be guided by that. Other Games is different to other On Topic forums though. Googlie's point is valid, we have to weigh the usefulness of the occasional OTF thread, against the disturbance caused to people trying to play the game. However if the people want me to be a bit laxer, I am happy to be so.

No, I think your current policy is good Drogue. Any OT threads that people want to advertise should be in the RecCommons, our OT thread. Seems sensible, and works.

That particullar thread was quite interesting, but OT=RecCommons IMHO.

            I couldn't disagree more

Our Rec Commons is somewhere I never visit 'cos of the incessant spam. I might as well "invest" the 3 hours per day trolling thru the OT forums as do it in the rec commons

I reckon whenever someone makes a topic they shouldn't just merge it with the rec-commons.

Hrmm how about a rec-commons and lounge?

The rec-commons gets all the spam and the lounge is offtopic stuff, but one of the mods splits out all really pointless posts from the lounge now and again then merges the spam with the rec-commons?

I'd prefer we just cut down on the levels of spam outside the rec commons than start a new thread to encourage it.

I am afraid that this is a lot of work for our mods. Besides, wasn't RecCommons intended for offtopic stuff? If we abandon ordering drinks part...

No. Threads will not be merged with the Rec Commons. It will stop it flowing. IMHO a Lounge is a bad idea.

I could have one topped locked thread advertising an OTF thread, soit isn't spammed but is available?

                            Topped? Please no....

Perhaps if we're advertising an OTF thread, then the advert thread could be locked after a set period (24 hours or thereabouts perhaps) and then allowed sink.
