    John says:
    hey chairman
    John says:
when was the last diplomatic message we sent to the pirates
    Voltaire says:
    Hello
    John says:
    sorry I'm always like this
    John says:
starting off immediately with a question
    Voltaire says:
    No no
    Voltaire says:
Thank you for rescuing me from a terrebly dull phone conversation
    Voltaire says:
    I'm uncertain
    John says:
    heh
    Voltaire says:
    It was a while back
    John says:
well it's time to send a message
    Voltaire says:
    perhaps a week
    John says:
we still need their vote so I suggest writing a message saying something reassuring
    John says:
don't bring up the vote yet
    Voltaire says:
    Alright
    Voltaire says:
    I'll send some
    Voltaire says:
    words of reassurance
    John says:
hrmm can you think of any information we can give them
    John says:
    something low value
    Voltaire says:
telling them that we sympathise with them on the CyCon situation
    John says:
    no no
    John says:
    that's too obvious
    John says:
they know we're strongly for the cycon
    John says:
    would it be too obvious?
    Voltaire says:
    I'll be subtle about it
    John says:
    cool
    John says:
what information can we give them that wouldn't be very important
    John says:
    but would show are goodwill
    John says:
    our goodwill
    Voltaire says:
What do you have in mind?
    John says:
You know I was thinking, Googlie seems to only make forums for alliances that appear to be working out.
    John says:
so subtlely that's leaking information out
    John says:
    oh
    John says:
    hrmm
    John says:
well I don't have anything in mind
    John says:
I'm not sure what information we could give them
    Voltaire says:
    I will compose something
    Voltaire says:
We need to send some sort of offer though
    Voltaire says:
It will look suspicious if we just contact them out of the blue
    John says:
we could offer something for planetary economics
    Voltaire says:
Since we haven't done that before
    Voltaire says:
    True
    John says:
yeah but if they get suspicious so what
    John says:
this time we really aren't up to anything *lol*
    Voltaire says:
    lol
    John says:
just making sure our relations don't fall to pieces that all
    Voltaire says:
i would like to have an offer on the table before i go to them
    Voltaire says:
    for that we'd need approval
    Voltaire says:
it can even be a bad offer
    Voltaire says:
since it doesn't matter if the pirates accept it or reject it
    Voltaire says:
since all we need to do is get our message accorss
    John says:
nah bad offers give you bad credit rating
    John says:
it's too early for council votes do you think?
    John says:
maybe we offer to name a base in their honour
    John says:
    as a gift
    John says:
    I think it's been 2 weeks
    Voltaire says:
    hmm
    John says:
because we had the whole university thing before we had the pirate thing
    John says:
maybe say we're afirming our pact with the pirates
    Voltaire says:
did you not suggest we wait until the drones increase their population?
    John says:
that we intend to keep the 35 year pledge
    John says:
    yeah
    John says:
well if we can all the factions to agree to support us as governer
    John says:
    get all the factions
    John says:
then I would be willing to go forward
    John says:
since if one person drops out
    John says:
    we still win
    Voltaire says:
but we cannot guarantee that when the vote comes that they will support us
    John says:
okay basically tell them that we still intend to keep our 35 year pledge.
    Voltaire says:
IMO the only way of doing that would be to make ourselves appear to be the neutral party
    John says:
naming a base after them is just too obvious
    Voltaire says:
    yes
    Voltaire says:
and it wouldn't work, it's not really all that attractive
    John says:
    *agree*
    Voltaire says:
    they'd want credits or tech
    John says:
we could buy a landmark off them
    John says:
    actually we can't
    John says:
our budget is rather tight in the next few years
    John says:
just remembered that we go down to 0 ECs in 2145 or something
    John says:
    umm ask about the PEG
    Voltaire says:
    PEG?
    Voltaire says:
    oh
    John says:
and say we're still commited to keeping our 35 year pledge
    Voltaire says:
    planetary energy grid
    John says:
    Planetary energy grid
    John says:
ask if they might be willing to do ecological engineering for the PEG
    Voltaire says:
    why ask about the PEG?
    John says:
because we would like to build it if we could
    Voltaire says:
    yes
    Voltaire says:
    hmm
    Voltaire says:
the problem we run into asking them about it is that they might build it simply because we want it
    Voltaire says:
to keep it away from us
    John says:
    *shrug*
    John says:
    so
    John says:
they've just about got that SP in the bag
    Voltaire says:
it seems that in that regard inaction may be the beat action
    John says:
trust me if we don't ask they'll build it anyway
    John says:
unless we decide to probe them for it
    John says:
but their bases are so far away
    Voltaire says:
    hmm
    Voltaire says:
    alright
    Voltaire says:
i will need to figure out how to phrase this
    John says:
also by closing a trade with the pirates with ecological engineering we're undermining the university's tech lead
    John says:
well you've done well actually for most of the other messages that required fluff
    John says:
so you can probably just send it after you've finished
    John says:
as for planetary votes, if we get everyone to agree to support us, if any of them drops out
    Voltaire says:
I will post it and let other take a look
    Voltaire says:
    just in case
    Voltaire says:
    alright
    John says:
    then we still win
    Voltaire says:
    let's sum this up
    Voltaire says:
we need to reassure the pirates of our pact
    John says:
    yeap
    Voltaire says:
in order to secure the planetary council vote
    John says:
say that we keep our promises
    Voltaire says:
we want planetary economics from them
    Voltaire says:
    and PEG if possible
    John says:
    no we want the PEG
    Voltaire says:
    alright
    John says:
planetary economics isn't important for a while
    Voltaire says:
    alright
    Voltaire says:
we're offering environmental enginnering in exchange?
    John says:
    for PEG
    Voltaire says:
    alright
    Voltaire says:
    anything else?
    John says:
just mainly to say we're still interested in keeping this alliance alive
    Voltaire says:
    alright
    Voltaire says:
    I will compose it
    Voltaire says:
    post it
    Voltaire says:
    and send it off
    John says:
the war faction doing the best at trading and building
    Voltaire says:
I will PM it to all the important PEACE members
    Voltaire says:
just to be sure they receive it
    John says:
    PM to their captain
    John says:
    and use the old email
    John says:
we should have congratulate makluka on his/her election
    Voltaire says:
    her
    John says:
but it seems rather late to be doing that now
    Voltaire says:
    we can mention it
    John says:
darn it I forgot to mention it
    John says:
I was planning on, but instead got caught up with meeting the university
    Voltaire says:
it's a small matter, though we have let our communications with PEACE lapse
    Voltaire says:
then again that may be a good sign on both ends
    Voltaire says:
that the pirates are content with the pact
    John says:
    not really
    Voltaire says:
often times heave contact might be a sign of manipulation, or at least an attempt at it
    John says:
I asked them to give me an offer a while ago
    Voltaire says:
    i'm perhaps being paranoid
    John says:
    they never replied back

    Voltaire says:
well hopefuly this will break them out of their shell
    John says:
hrmm we should mention the cycon thingy
    John says:
    basically acknowledge it happened
    John says:
but don't really say nothing about it
    John says:
sort of make it clear the hive doesn't care either way
    John says:
    well not in those words
    Voltaire says:
yes i know what you're getting at
    John says:
but say, it's okay, what happen doesn't change anything
    Voltaire says:
    i will work it in
    Voltaire says:
    not directly
    Voltaire says:
but make a passing mention to it
    Voltaire says:
so it doesn't appear as though we're ignoring the subject
    John says:
    *nod*
    John says:
okay that's all I can think of
    John says:
which is alot more than I thought we were going to send
    Voltaire says:
i will not make it overly long
    John says:
I originally started this MSN thinking we'll just send a message saying the hive is still willing to communicate if the pirate feel the need.
    Voltaire says:
it will most likely be about two paragraphs
    John says:
    cool
    Voltaire says:
    lol
    John says:
    concise too
    Voltaire says:
    oh
    Voltaire says:
    before i forget
    John says:
    yes?
    Voltaire says:
can you also please post this conversation on the forums
    Voltaire says:
just so i have reference when writting this
    Voltaire says:
i don't want to miss out of anything
    John says:
    heh way ahead of you

My heart walks, searching for something exciting that will passionately sway the beating in my chest
If the intent is to discourage others from slogging thru the post, it's succeeding

What's wrong with Voltaire or Chairman?

          To PEACE:
          Greetings Captain Makahlua,

I would like to congratulate your on your democratic ascension to the leadership of PEACE. The Central Continuing Committee has high hopes for replenishing relations with PEACE and entering into a new era of prosperity for both our factions.

In order to usher in this new era of relations the Human Hive wishes to propose a trade offer to PEACE. We wish to acquire Adaptive Economic, in order to construct the Planetary Energy Grid, in exchange we offer you Environmental Engineering. The reason for this trade would be that it benefits both factions by amalgamating our research efforts. Furthermore it weakens the grip on technological advance that the University holds, and would allow both our factions (through tech trade) to become less dependant on research factions.

May the Human Hive and PEACE exist in friendship and brotherhood for a thousand years!

          Voltaire,
Chairman of the Central Continuing Committee

Is this trade actually necessary or will it just slow down our research efforts?

Many thanks, the 'hot seat' maybe our highest office, but it's not without both perks and perils I've passed your note on to the Captain's Council and either I or Ambassador Flubber will let you know if that deal is agreeable to the fleet

It's worth it, if we can get free energy banks in every city, and 25% to all our stockpile.

Huge bonus, the way the hive stockpiles.
