    HongHu says:
John what is the crawler rehoming technique?
    John says:
basically it's about not wasting minerals by leaving them in the build queue
    John says:
and making bases stockpile the gross production of your cities as much as possible
    HongHu says:
I thought you said that one crawler would actually generate twice the minerals?
    John says:
    that's different
    John says:
    that's a crawler automatic rehome
    HongHu says:
oh I think I know this one then
    HongHu says:
you are saying one a base becomes a colony pod
    HongHu says:
all the units in the base are automatically rehomed
    John says:
    yep
    HongHu says:
but still in that turn the crawler only generate one mineral for the new base right?
    HongHu says:
I mean whatever the number is
    HongHu says:
    but not twice
    John says:
the crawler generates minerals for the building of the colony pod
    John says:
then generates minerals for base it rehomes to
    HongHu says:
but that was the last turn
    John says:
it requires that the base it rehomes to is lower in the base list than the base that was converted into a colony pod
    HongHu says:
oh you mean in the last turn it already give min to the other base
    HongHu says:
    lower means later built?
    John says:
    yep
    John says:
but if you look at the base list
    HongHu says:
    where?
    John says:
the bases are ordered according the time they were built
    John says:
    F4
    HongHu says:
    oh ok
    HongHu says:
but if you designate one base as pod factory
    HongHu says:
that would mean this one basically is the newest base
    HongHu says:
so it won't have the nice effect
    John says:
    yep
    John says:
so it only works for rebuilding older bases
    HongHu says:
ok now what about the other rehoming technique?
    John says:
or if you have two bases that switch between each other
    HongHu says:
    hmmm
    John says:
the rehoming technique is all about maximising turn advantage and building things faster
    John says:
    if you have two bases
    HongHu says:
    ok
    John says:
both with 7 minerals from workers
    HongHu says:
    ok
    John says:
and both with 7 mineral crawlers
    HongHu says:
    ok
    John says:
in 2 turns they both build and both stockpile
    HongHu says:
    yes
    John says:
however if you rehome both 7 mineral crawlers to one base
    HongHu says:
then you build one in one turn
    HongHu says:
and then you rehome them to the other base
    John says:
    yep
    John says:
    and you stockpile more too
    HongHu says:
    but in 2 turns
    John says:
alright lets see for those two turns
    HongHu says:
the amount is still the same
    John says:
    *shakes*
    HongHu says:
unless you build a new crawler or something
    John says:
the first case is in the 2nd turn 2 crawlers are built
    HongHu says:
    in the first turn
    HongHu says:
    ok
    John says:
    14 minerals at each base
    HongHu says:
    ok
    John says:
that's 7 ECs from each stockpile
    HongHu says:
    yes
    John says:
so you get 2 crawlers and 14ECs
    John says:
    with 2nd case
    HongHu says:
    yes
    HongHu says:
you get 1 crawler 1 turn ahead
    John says:
in 1st base build crawler, and it's producing 21 minerals per turn
    HongHu says:
    so 2 more min
    HongHu says:
    ok
    John says:
then in 2nd turn 2nd base is building 1 crawler and it's producing 21 minerals per turn
    HongHu says:
    hmmm
    John says:
+2 extra minerals from the extra crawler
    HongHu says:
    that's right
    John says:
    21 minerals = 11ECs
    John says:
    so that's 22ECs
    HongHu says:
so the turn when it finishes a build it has more min
    HongHu says:
    so more stockpile
    HongHu says:
    ahh
    HongHu says:
    good idea
    John says:
so with 2nd case it has 22 ECs, +2 minerals and two crawlers
    John says:
first case you only had 14ECs, and two crawlers
    HongHu says:
    yep
    HongHu says:
    I understand now
    HongHu says:
    thanks
    John says:
that is the reason why we gained so much advantage during the crawler building stage of the game
    HongHu says:
    right
    John says:
    wanna post it
    HongHu says:
if we have lots crawlers the effect is rather great
    HongHu says:
    in the forum?
    HongHu says:
    sure
    HongHu says:
I think it will help people learn
    HongHu says:
    ok do it now
    John says:
it works even better if you know how to rush buy too
    HongHu says:
I'm doing it in a min brb
    John says:
the crawler rehoming and rush buying were the main things I was doing
    John says:
hrmm in three turns it's actually even better
    John says:
because you end up with 4 crawlers
    John says:
    and the stockpile of 15
    John says:
with with the other method you're still sitting on 2 crawlers
    John says:
    15+22 = 37 ECs + 2 minerals + 4 crawlers
    John says:
other method 2 crawlers, 14 ECs
Be good, and if at first you don't succeed, perhaps failure will be back in fashion soon. -- teh Spamski

    John says:
the bases are ordered according the time they were built - F4
    Be careful.

If you click on the lower left window "Best Bases" then click on any of the bases displayed (eg energy output) the F4 list is re-ordered in descending order from that base down in terms of energy output.

(but the default is date of formation the next time you open the F4 screen)

      Thanks Googlie...

You know, sometimes I really think GOD is on our side.

      And other times...

.. heh, well, other times, eh?
