    John says:
    hello
    Voltaire says:
    Hello
    Voltaire says:
I just finished an interesting conversation with Kody.
    Voltaire says:
    Sorry
    Voltaire says:
    Vev
    Voltaire says:
    lol
    John says:
    heh
    John says:
    you posting it?
    Voltaire says:
Unfortunately no, hopefuly he saved it...
    Voltaire says:
    I forgot
    Voltaire says:
    Which reminds me
    Voltaire says:
What are your thoughts on repealing the UN charter?
    John says:
    I'm worried about nerve gas
    Voltaire says:
From my analysis the benefits just do not exist in our situation.
    John says:
    it kills population
    Voltaire says:
Since we will not have a need for nerve stapeling
    John says:
if we repeal it at this stage
    John says:
there's nothing really useful to get
    Voltaire says:
    Yes
    Voltaire says:
The thought just crossed my mind
    John says:
also it means people will be able to nerve gas us at will
    Voltaire says:
True, something we do not want
    John says:
On accepting this I would feel obliged to allow one of you into our forum.

We do not conduct turn chats - all decisions are made in the forum so all our discussions will be visible. I will need to clear it with the others first though.
    John says:
we should let buster into our forum in turn
    John says:
but we can't let his proper name in
    John says:
    if he gets an alias
    John says:
    would we let him in?
    Voltaire says:
    Of course...
    Voltaire says:
Our relations with the Drones become crucial...
    Voltaire says:
Vev pointed out that after our invasion of the University we will create a multipolar world
    John says:
    *nod*
    Voltaire says:
With ouselves/Uni on one side, and CyCon/Pirates on the other...
    Voltaire says:
The Drones will most likely side with us.
    Voltaire says:
    Except they're not a guarantee.
    John says:
oh yeah did you get the top secret conversation I had with Jamski
    Voltaire says:
Did you PM it to me?
    John says:
Jamski said he sent it to you
    John says:
well I was doing the calculations **************
    John says:
and I managed to come up with exact ***************
    Voltaire says:
No I did not get it
    John says:
    *grumble*
    John says:
I told Jamski to send it to you
    Voltaire says:
    He may have e-mailed it
    Voltaire says:
    let me check
    Voltaire says:
    also
    Voltaire says:
if you want to contact me with such information from now on
    Voltaire says:
    please use this e-mail: nerv111@shaw.ca
    Voltaire says:
    I seldom check my hotmail
    John says:
    you're usually on MSN
    Voltaire says:
    good point
    John says:
and since we're usually running our planning 4-5 turns into the future
    John says:
    they're usually plenty of time
    Voltaire says:
No, he has not sent me anything
    John says:
    okay
    John says:
well this will have to be edited out
    ****************************************
    ****************************************
    John says:
can we give the drones a quick loan so they can build the ME faster?
    Voltaire says:
I have no objections to that
    John says:
they get like 30 ECs per turn, so they'll probably be able to pay the loan back fairly fast
    Voltaire says:
    Speaking of the Drones
    Voltaire says:
can you find out if they encountered another faction
    John says:
    not yet they say
    Voltaire says:
Comrade Vev mentioned something to this effect
    John says:
    they found land
    John says:
    and found renamed land
    Voltaire says:
    Alright, so someone is near
    John says:
    *nod*
    Voltaire says:
    Also
    Voltaire says:
How soon do you beleive we can have an invasion force under way?
    Voltaire says:
the marshal's estimated sometime in the early 2160's
    John says:
depends on how much we build our home base up
    John says:
    2160 is possible
    John says:
but neglects home growth a bit
    Voltaire says:
with no neglect of home growth?
    John says:
how big is the invasion force?
    John says:
2170 for a raiding party that might be able to take a base or two.
    John says:
    2180 for a full invasion I believe.
    John says:
assuming we don't try and build any more SPs after the CN.
    Voltaire says:
Enough to effectivly take out defenses no greater than scout patrols, something along the lines of our defenses at the moment
    John says:
    2170 definiately
    John says:
with no neglect of home bases
    Voltaire says:
    perfect
    John says:
movement on water might take a while
    Voltaire says:
BTW how soon until we have impact infantry?
    John says:
    depends on tech priorities
    John says:
we still have to decide what we're doing with techs
    Voltaire says:
well in speaking with the marshal he stated that he would feel more secure if we were to develope impact tech first before attempting military action
    Voltaire says:
do we currently have a research goal in mind?
    John says:
    we have two
    Voltaire says:
    which two?
    John says:
    flexibility and industrial economics
    Voltaire says:
    alright
    John says:
    I mean
    Voltaire says:
    impact can come after
    John says:
    environmental economics
    John says:
environmental economics may be a while
    Voltaire says:
and perhaps we can acquire it via probe after flexibility saving us the trouble of researching it
    John says:
remember the hive has slow tech rate
    John says:
    well we're considering that
    Voltaire says:
    Therein lays the dilemma
    Voltaire says:
if we go for impact now, and attack the Uni sooner we could take advantage of their research
    Voltaire says:
    on the other hand
    Voltaire says:
we may not be as prepared
    Voltaire says:
therefore the chances of sucess become reduced
    Voltaire says:
I for one favor developing the domestic end before taking foreign action.
    Voltaire says:
Nonetheless time is of issue in this case.
    John says:
jamski thinks we should do alot of tech stealing
    Voltaire says:
I would rather avoid it if we can...
    Voltaire says:
Hence if we secure the University for ourselves, we can avoid it completely.
    Voltaire says:
Independence is crucial in all matters, we should strive for self-sufficiency.
    John says:
googlie has specifically tried his best to make invasion extremely hard.
    Voltaire says:
    I would imagine...
    Voltaire says:
But we will need to do it given the fact that we cannot allow the research factions to achieve victory via transcendence easily.
    Voltaire says:
    BTW
    Voltaire says:
do you have the last hive save?
    John says:
    yep
    Voltaire says:
i would like to take a look at it
    John says:
    before I moved
    John says:
    or after I moved?
    Voltaire says:
    after would be preferable
    John sends:

Transfer of "ACDG - Hive, 2132-2.zip" is complete.

    John says:
    yah transfer worked
    John says:
I'm going to check up on planetary economics
    Voltaire says:
    alright
    John says:
    hrmm

    John says:
should we go for air power
    John says:
    or for planetary economics etc
    Voltaire says:
    ohh
    Voltaire says:
    Air power would be tempting
    Voltaire says:
but it's not useful enough unless we plan on going to war
    John says:
so maybe we let the drones go after air power
    John says:
and we try for the asetic vitures
    John says:
    and planetary energy grid
    Voltaire says:
    indeed
    Voltaire says:
the PEG would come in rather handy
    John says:
    can you poll this
    John says:
I think we should go mobility next
    John says:
    we get mobility and flexibility
    John says:
while the drones go along the restriction lifting route
    John says:
then we go for the planetary economics?
    Voltaire says:
alright, i will poll it officialy and unofficialy
    John says:
    thanks
    John says:
because I'm running out of time recently
    Voltaire says:
    no worries
    John says:
and polling it officially and unofficially takes alot of that time
    Voltaire says:
    people wanted to get involved
    Voltaire says:
i will speak to as many as i can on MSN
    Voltaire says:
for the others i will ask for their opinions on the forum
    John says:
    *nod*
    John says:
yep that's what I usually do
    John says:
well add all of this to MSN chat
    Voltaire says:
yes, that way others can use it as a reference if need be
    John says:
    remove the actual **************
    John says:
well the whole section that explains our ***************
    John says:
    actually I'll post it
    John says:
    just reading buster's post
    Voltaire says:
do you have the entire chat in front of you
    Voltaire says:
    please send it to me
    Voltaire says:
since i accedentaly closed the window
    John says:
    yep I have
    John says:
I'm going to post the entire chat minus the ********************
    John says:
    not ********************
    John says:
    other factions may ********************
    Voltaire says:
    alright
    John says:
    also the shock value
    John says:
    of watching the hive ********************
    Voltaire says:
    lol
    John says:
it will be good for our standing I think
    Voltaire says:
Indeed, we would prove valuable allies with the other factions after they see our ****************
    John says:
    lol
    Voltaire says:
    BTW
    Voltaire says:
    what's our current research rate?
    John says:
drones have more **********, we have great ************
    John says:
currently we're running at 8-10 turns per tech
    Voltaire says:
    not bad
    Voltaire says:
    the PEG should help that
    John says:
tell people to read buster's comments
    Voltaire says:

Some conversation that may be suitable here:

    Vev says:
    hello
    Voltaire says:
    Hello
    Vev says:
it appears buster found someone else
    Vev says:
    well their island anyway
    Vev says:
unless someone is playing a cruel joke
    Voltaire says:
    lol
    Voltaire says:
    No
    Voltaire says:
    I expected this...
    Vev says:
any guesses who they could be?
    Voltaire says:
If my analysis is correct he has encountered the University
    Vev says:
    those 'b's
    Vev says:
    bases or boreholes?
    Vev says:
    or bunkers
    Voltaire says:
We will of course request that he share all findings with us...
    Voltaire says:
And if it is the University, it makes our invasion plans all that much easier.
    Voltaire says:
Since now we know where they are.
    Vev says:
    and probing too
    Vev says:
    if they are that close
    Vev says:
is there any point to a disruptive raid?
    Vev says:
to do a raid, e.g. kill crawlers or formers?
    Voltaire says:
    No
    Voltaire says:
    We want them intact.
    Voltaire says:
The Marshal has said it can be done.
    Vev says:
but we need a decent force?
    Voltaire says:
We presume that the Uni has not built up their defenses...
    Voltaire says:
    Just as we have not.
    Voltaire says:
We will need a decent force.
    Voltaire says:
    But nothing too major.
    Voltaire says:
I have Kody working on it
    Vev says:
    can lasers do it?
or do we have to go for impact?
    Voltaire says:
    What are lasers again? 2?
    Vev says:
    yes
    Voltaire says:
The Marshal has stated that he would preffer impact...
    Voltaire says:
    It would make things easier.
    Voltaire says:
    So we will wait.
    Voltaire says:
    We're not in a hurry.
    Voltaire says:
This early in the game the University will not have had time to build up their defenses.
    Voltaire says:
    Besides
    Voltaire says:
it will be a surprise attack
    Vev says:
we are in a sp rush
    Voltaire says:
they will not know what hit them
    Vev says:
    hgp, vw
I doubt we would get the third one
    Vev says:
that mean PTS goes to someone else
    Voltaire says:
The PTS isn't that important in this game...
    Vev says:
meaning we could go for CN
    Voltaire says:
We're not on a huge map...
    Voltaire says:
And we want to handle the drone problem
    Voltaire says:
    indeed
    Vev says:
hopefully the others haven't got doc:loy
    Voltaire says:
    Indeed
    Voltaire says:
Also some good news, more rumors have appeared that the CyCon are dissatisfied with their relations with the Pirates.
    Voltaire says:
This will work very well for us.
    Voltaire says:
After our attack on the University we should attempt to assure favourable relations with one of the two forces.
    Vev says:
once with CN should we, if possible, switch away from wealth during a mass production of attack rovers?
    Voltaire says:
And then manipulate them into conflict with one another.
    Voltaire says:
    Yes
    Voltaire says:
    I agree
    Vev says:
I fear that the uni may get their revenge by bribing the others with tech to attack us
    Vev says:
    e.g. pirates
    Voltaire says:
    That won't occur
    Voltaire says:
    For several reasons
    Voltaire says:
Our attack on them will be quick, the Marshal expect a surrender within a few turns at the most
    Voltaire says:
We will replace Archaic with General Tactius
    Voltairesays:
And we will also keep one of their bases as a guarantee that they do not attempt to revolt
    Voltaire says:
    alos
    Voltaire says:
    *also
    Voltaire says:
we will demand that the university have no real military
    Voltaire says:
we will provide the necessary defense for them
    Voltaire says:
they will only be allowed police
    Vev says:
    this implies a pact?
    Voltaire says:
    Yes
    Voltaire says:
The University would serve the purpose of providing us with research
    Voltaire says:
    with their tech
    Voltaire says:
    and our industrial might
    Voltaire says:
    we will be unstopable
    Vev says:
if they are running free-market, their garrison would mainly prevent sneak mindworm attacks?
    Voltaire says:
    Essentialy
    Voltaire says:
Most likely they have scouts acting as police
    Voltaire says:
something akin to what we have
    Voltaire says:
with impact weapons we will be able to take them out quickly
    Vev says:
currently, it is the tech dilemma we are facing
    Voltaire says:
Indeed, that is why I proposed this solution...
    Voltaire says:
It would solve our tech problems preminantly.
    Voltaire says:
And it prevents the Pirates/CyCon/Uni from joining forces.
    Voltaire says:
    Such a possibility seems remote.
    Voltaire says:
But just in case, we cannot risk it.
    Vev says:
so far we are doing a good job reliving the 'iron curtain' isolationist policy, although not by choice
    Voltaire says:
True, though I think that if nothing else a cold war will make the game interesting.
    Voltaire says:
With ourselves, the subdued University, and Drones on one side...
    Voltaire says:
And the Pirates/CyCon on the other.
    Voltaire says:
Though the Drones are a wild card...
    Voltaire says:
    We cannot guarantee their cooperation
    Voltaire says:
IMO they will side with us...
    Voltaire says:
    lol
    Vev says:
we both need each others help
    Vev says:
    at the moment
    Voltaire says:
Perhaps we should even call our little alliance something akin to the Warsaw pact
    Voltaire says:
What I am interested in securing the position of planetary governor for our faction
    Voltaire says:
and creating a council outside the game that could pass resolutions
    Voltaire says:
we would effectivly dominate the UN
    Vev says:
just need to gain more votes than those pesky AI
    Voltaire says:
    True
    Voltaire says:
Well if the Uni, and Drones vote for us we should be set
    Voltaire says:
Out of game Googlie can RP the AI
    Vev says:
Googlie says that the AI should win any election within 2175
    Voltaire says:
True, but population votes only count for planetary governor elections
    Voltaire says:
    nothing else
    Voltaire says:
all other decisions are one faction, one vote
    Vev says:
so should a council be held now, it will be between miriam and roze
    Vev says:
does the AI ever veto stuff?
    Voltaire says:
    I've seen it done
    Voltaire says:
    Granted
    Voltaire says:
    Only once or twice
    Voltaire says:
since most of the time I'm planetary governor
    Voltaire says:
    Out of curiosity
    Voltaire says:
what's your opinion on repealing the UN charter?
    Vev says:
    interesting can of worms
    Voltaire says:
We would have 3 votes guaranteed
    Vev says:
does it mean we can nervestaple without loss of trade?
    Voltaire says:
ourselves, uni (after we subdue them), and miriam (most likely)
    Voltaire says:
    yes
    Voltaire says:
    exactly
    Voltaire says:
We need to get the drones on side
but they would most likely oppose such a move
    Vev says:
    yeah
    Voltaire says:
where's Colonel Santiago when you need her
    Vev says:
    mostly likely something about 'nervegas'
    Voltaire says:
    hmm
I will need to get Kody to soften the Drones up on issues like that
    Vev says:
would there be a need to perform an emergency nervestaple to prevent probe attacks?
    Vev says:
and what happens with repeated nervestapling?
    Voltaire says:
I don't think we will need to nervestaple
    Voltaire says:
in fact we are operating on the premise that we will not need to do it
    Voltaire says:
so i beleive kody has taken this into account
    Voltaire says:
and hence it shouldn't be necessary
    Voltaire says:
    as for repeated nervestaples
    Voltaire says:
    i'm not sure
    Voltaire says:
    i've never done it
    Vev says:
I don't seem to nervestaple either, maybe I should play a game where the AI has the happy SPs
    Voltaire says:
indeed i should try that as well
    Voltaire says:
i've never had a need for it
    Voltaire says:
once or twice when i started out
    Voltaire says:
but now things are managed well enough that there are no drone problems for the most part

Oh gosh, nervestapling our people. We are really into it, aren't we?

Heh all the edited out parts was me telling Voltaire the exact build dates of our SPs when our ETA to build was about 5 or 6 years into the future I think...
