I think it should be over the nutrient. We need more growth, because we're lagging very badly in population size compared to everyone else.
Was surprised to see the decision re: the current colony pod. In all my verifications of recent turns I moved it down the Voltaro River (to just below the fungus patch in the bay) - base is established in turn 2 after completion, and can work the adjacent nutrient tile and also the mineral tile in its radius

Naw - it's mainly 'cos you, like the Drones, started the game with just 1 tech (versus 2 for the Uni, Pirates, Cycon and Angels) And the Angels and Believers started with 3 bases already built and I think the Pirates got their 3 built by turn 2.
Your Industry advantage is helping you incrementally, and after you meet a couple or more factions and start trading you'll soon rise in the graphs
I don't think there's any inattention to game detail at all - quite the reverse - everything seems to be well discussed in advance. And you have 4 bases (soon to be 5), with 2 scouts and 2 rovers out exploring, and are using the classic "builder" tactic of getting formers cheaply by rushing them in new bases using the free first row of minerals that way.
So I think it's just a matter of being patient and the growth in power will come
As regard to my effort of SMAX, now I finally see something different with the help of Comrade Kody ( ), but it says that it couldn't find all the new factions. Do I need another download somewhere? I saw a install.exe in the list of the files. Should I run that? But when I tried that, it says xdfe53.dll has encountered a problem.
