  • Fate of PEACE on Yardlong island

I start this thread in my function as contactperson on behalf of the CPU-PEACE ceasefire negotiations.

Although probably a majority will be in favour of destroying the PEACE schooner near Angel territory if possible, there is still to be talked about the fate of PEACE on Yardlong island.

    Two options:

We simply abandon talks and destroy PEACE utterly (if the schooner can be destroyed, off course). This will, I think, continue hostilities with Hive who, looking at their actions so far, desperately wants PEACE to survive within their protection.

    Or:

we do destroy that schooner (again, if possible ), but let allow PEACE to survive and tell them that they can found new bases somewhere in the north outside our sphere of influence, but abandon Yardlong.
This will keep PEACE busy for at least 10 turns to establishing a new permanent colony. In short, it takes them out of the active game for a while, and are vulnerable to any wimp of every faction.

Personally, I'm in favour of destroying that schooner since PEACE would feel stronger then against us in the future (with a base, possibly Conshelf 57), but let them survive and build up again. They can never (on their own, at least) threaten anyone again for the remainder of the game.

This last option keeps us a noble faction (not gamewise, humanwise), takes away the front reason for Hive to pursue this war and gives us the pride that negotiations will continue on our terms, not those of the Hive.

Opinions of the members please, I'm not willing to waste my time on playing the diplomat with PEACE if the concensus is to 'delete' them.

Remove their votes from the planetary council. That is their only real power over us now.

I think many of yall are alowing yourselves o be rules by your emotions here. How dose attacking that base help the Conciousness enough to justify the expenditure of time and energy?

Thus far, 2 are opposed to destroying them, 2 are in favour.

As we cannot take PEACE out this turn, I'll take the liberty to send a message to PEACE with our apologies for the destruction of the schooner, and an explanation in the light of the Hive announcement of a viral infection.

In case more people are in favour of eliminating PEACE by the next turn, nothing is lost then.

          Impaler:

The tactical advantage for Hive is that it is just in range for a two-leg flight of their choppers and needlejets.

As said, I'm in favour of leaving PEACE as it is, but I'm gonna be firm over them.

So I take it if PEACE agrees on leaving Yardlong island is enough for you. As long as they go north to the sea again, they can survive.

I'd prefer to see them out of the game. They are still a potential threat to us with their vote in the council. I'd hate to see the larger factions push through a charter repeal and slaughter us with gas.

Cross Bone is not withing flying distance of any Hive base. Its 25 spaces from the nearest Hive base. They will have to have significantly better tecnology before their aircraft could fly that far.

That works two ways, Archaic, in that case we have the option to 'slaughter' them as well. Besides, I would be happy to see this game getting as far that other council options are possible. ATM it doesn't look like that.

Ok, so far 3 in favour of letting PEACE survive (far away from us ) and 3 still want to take them out.

I suppose I'll need to count opinions from other members in other fora then as well (Drogue for instance, wanted to continue to respect the ceasefire)

Negotiations will continue for the moment.

For all opposed, think of this. If we let PEACE survive now, we might have a faction to go to if Hive/Drones succeed in taking us out.

Destroy them or let them live (I prefer destroying them) but remove that base from that island!

One little issue that will come up regardless of whether we kill PEACE with asent from the Hive or not, with the elimination of a faction the turnplay order resets. The Drones would lose a turn and the Hive would play after us. This would likely annoy the Drones a little, so we would possibly have to worry about killing PEACE's last defender and getting Goodlie or Tass to enforce a disband of their last base.
