I firmly believe that the Hive and Drones will go to war with each other at some point in the near future. If one declares war on us and moves their military resources out of their bases, they'll be ripe for the picking by the other side.

In other words....we're not out of the woods yet, but if we play both sides off against each other, like I always do in PBEM's (Heh heh heh....*ahem*), we may just stand a shot of winning. It may very well hinge on us surviving that long and getting to the Space Elevator though. We don't have the resources to wage a military campaign without long range drop abilities, at least not against these two. Our best chance is to assult them while they're both weak, after going at each other. If we could take and hold even one high production base on their continent, we're in it with a shot.

i totally agree with archaic it will make the game a lot longer but we can win....btw if we all agree on no bases within a certain radius to protect ourselves against PB`s we might start thinking about mobile platforms for PB`s and aircraft...i know I never use them but in this instance they can come in handy

That would be hard to disguise however. Small bases planted only a turn or two before the PB is fired, to allow us to move it through a few "checkpoints" is probably a better option. A transport and a CP is far less obvious than a Carrier Cruiser and a PB not accounted for in our base readouts.

yes but what if we rename the carrier to something that doesnt stand out as much...and put it in the base closest to the enemy the move the carrier out and in the same turn firing the PB...it is a tactics that i use very often in civII and civIII. effectivaly changing the range of the PB with 5 to 6

Still, the problem remains of how to make sure there is no warning - if there is any, the base could simply be the target of a pre-emptive strike, and the investment would go to waste. Even if our building these units is suspicious, it it makes it much harder for them to know just where the attack is coming from.

thru...carriers are not likely to be the target of PB`s it self...

Our overall strategy should be to prolong the game with a Threeway standoff between Us the Hive and the Drones. No one will be able to attack another major faction without making itself vulnorable to another. We then focus on expanding our power by Expantion into empty territory (of which we still have plenty of and excelent access to the rest of the Planets open spaces) and Conquest of the AI's. Combined with the Cloning Vats and ever Growing Economic Power we can then push ahead and ultimatly make a Co-op victory with the first faction to sell out and alie with us (I would prefer the Hive over the Drones because the Hive has played this game in a very fun and engaging way vs the Drones who aren't Role Playing or even interacting much)
Companions the creator seeks, not corpses, not herds and believers. Fellow creators, the creator seeks - those who write new values on new tablets. Companions the creator seeks, and fellow harvesters; for everything about him is ripe for the harvest. - Thus spoke Zarathustra, Fredrick Nietzsche

Or try to negotiate a non-PB treaty

Btw, all of you seem so certain that those 2 will attack each other. But they got the same feeling about this triad standoff as we do. I don't think they will attack each other that readily. Buster is a bit of a wildcard, but Hive, being played by a whole team as well, won't go for it.

Those that stuck with the game got alot of respect in the Hive for toughing it out.
