I voted write-in on the Peacekeeping, and vote for Central Code-Cracking Cyborg (4C), a great play on our 3D .

It's great to know you count for 100% of the factional opinion... if only for a short time .
Comrade Corellion, Secretary of Science and Social Engineering for the Human Hive in the Alpha Centauri Police State Game (ACPSG).
Function Corelli Omega-9, Internal Affairs Function (Terms 110, 101, 100, 011, and 010) and Advisor on Foreign Affairs (Term 001) for the Cybernetic Consciousness in the Alpha Centauri Democracy Team Game (ACDTG).
The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, or one.

Voted for all the .... Functions.

A few points: I thinkw e should ban swear words, whether as initials or not. Ming would see it as trying to get round the censor, it is against the admins wishes, and this is a family site for people of any age. To subject them to vulgar language is wrong IMHO. I know it's funny, but it's against the rules, and it's a little silly IMHO

The main thing, I that I think whatever we choose, it should be the same for all directors. I think having, for example, "Central Infrastructure Processing Unit" and "Downloading External Live Links" makes it not obvious they are both directors. Remember we are a logical faction, and believe in substance over style. Those to together makes no sense, except for looking good. It is also too long IMHO, as they would be hard to remember.

I am surprised that Maniac allowed in "Social Engineering Guiding Algorithm", which imples that we are only algorithms.

voted write-in for the last, as I think it is awful. Just to try to get CISCO, it doesn't make sense. 3D is not offline, it doesn't initiate anything, and co-processor? I think either just call it the editor, or something like Digital Data Download Director (4D, one dimension ahead of the paper). But CISCO?

Guys, I'm not really satisfied with some of the poll options either, but it's not my fault people only start to make new suggestions and give comments once the poll is busy...
Should I start a third poll on this matter?

What about the following simple and consequential way of naming our directors btw, replacing the Director by simply Function as per Drogue's idea, but keeping the old ACDG position specifics:
        Science Function
        Military & Coverts Ops Function
        Social Engineering Function
        Foreign Affairs Function
        Internal Affairs Function

It's a pity for all those nice and funny abbreviations already invented, but we could include them in a great article for a 3D issue.

ooc: And you thought I was wrong to cheat at pool by shoving a ball in the hole! I'm sure kids get a lot worse than that, and besides, I'm sure not many kids come on this forum, I assume member only means that others cant look at it? I say that because until Will invited me, I couldnt find it...

          Ah well.

Those are the titles on our registration thing right? In that case... gotta change mine...

elijah: Yes I do think cheating is wrong. I just think it spoils the fun if people decide to pick up balls and put them in holes in a pool game.

And it is against the rules. This is a family site, and many people do not want to see that. One of them would be me. If we post that on the main forum as an election piece, it will be deleted and could involve banning. That is my problem.

Maniac: I would go with those, although I think Foreign Affairs Function is better as Diplomatic Function, Internal Affairs Function as State Function, and Social Engineering Function as Social Function, but I am happy either way. I think we need them to be the same though, havign completely different accronyms for each is confusing, and very illogical, thus completely out of character. Yes it's clever and funny, but that wears of very quickly. Being logical as we are, surely it must be function before style?

And I dislike the way the SEGA accronym implies that we are only algorithms. We are far more than that.

Everyone (but you) found it funny, so one could argue it increased the level of fun. Sport becomes boring and tedious when it is taken seriously so often, it is a laugh fundamentally (unless professional obviously).

What about adding "variable", which is an important notion in programming?

No, you just think that. Indeed, like with your insulting jokes, you seem to think people find them funny, when actually they don't. You even claiming to know what other people think is very arrogant IMHO.

Sport becomes boring when during a game, people think it is fun to cheat. Cheating spoils games. Games are there because they are fun. Cheating is not fun, it spoils games. Yes havign alauch is important, doing silly things, having fun... Cheating does not serve that function. Besides, what i really had a problem with, is cheating and then bragging when you win. If it's just for fun, why brag? I think cheating just wrecks fun, and serves no purpose.

Now chill down boys, and settle the argument by drinking some beers together.
You know, you two combined are really funny. I would love to see you two discussing "free will" and "relativity" in a bar.

It has been done on many occasions Indeed, when out drinking or havign a party, we often end up semi-drunk "putting the world to rights" as my dad puts it. Many of our best arguments come when under the influence of some intoxicating substance Cheating and offensive jokes are just a sore point I'm afraid. He thinks they are fine, I do not (when I mean offensive, I mean directly offensive at a particular person in that room, usually me or my best friend). We agree on a lot though, even though we argue all the time

Yeah, we're like a misguided thinktank when we're drunk, usually takes the form of (i'll use poly names):

                        elijah: I propose something
                        Drogue: No

                        jk

I dont think cheating is fine in the sporting context (which is part of the reason I find it so incredibly boring), but in the context of "fun" or "play" or amusement, cheating makes it a laugh. In that context, one doesnt play to win, one plays to relax. If we were playing to win, I wouldnt have cheated.

With regards to *that* joke, I'm told that most people, barring you and the person concerned, found it funny. Besides, I cannot be held responsible for the spontaneous actions of my mouth! You know as well as I do that my subconscious has more power over my tongue than my intellect!

People can be offended and find it funny at the same time.

But anyways, enough of that. To tired for it

Who'd have thought it, you supporting political correctness

Besides, I dont think they can. When people say something offensive to me, I am offended and I dont find it funny, dont laugh, sometimes show my distaste. When I find something funny, I laugh, and don't find it offensive. Having said that, I am not politically correct, but upon asking other people, it would appear that my position has been borne out.

Can someone explain these titles thing, and do I need to choose one of them in my registration thing?

No. These titles are the posts that you can be elected to. For example, the person elected to be in charge of the science will be either Science Function or Central Science Processing Function.
