  • Base Names and proprietary Landmarks

I don't know if you are going to stay with the UoP basenames, but I have taken the liberty of starting a discussion thread on the subject - and local landmarks

(Academician Archaic: just delete this thread - or padlock it - if inappropriate)

To kick off, here's a list from one of the Uni clones used in the Forum Wars games:

    LANDBASES:
    Varsity Base
    Oxford
    Cambridge
    Harvard
    Yale
    Cornell
    Stanford
    Purdue
    UCLA
    Concordia
    Berkeley
    Brigham Young
    Duke
    Westpoint
    Leiden
    Heidelberg
    Sandhurst
    Berne
    St Andrews
    Edinburgh
    Carleton
    York
    Simon Fraser
    Sorbonne
    Athens
    Moscow
    Macquarie
    Massey
    UBC

    WATERBASES:
    The Maritime Institute
    Cousteau Research Center
    Atlantis Foundation
    Oceanography Base
    Tidal Research Base
    Reef Research Center
    The Soumarine Institute
    Gravity's Pull
    Ocean's Fury

(And as you know, you can edit PBEM maps in play to name landmarks within your own sphere of influence - or to put "placemarks" down for future base sites, etc

    Thank you, sir!
Everything changes, but nothing is truly lost.

Interesting suggestions. We could also have a base named "MIT". Or "Silicon Valley".
I watched you fall. I think I pushed.

        Lumuba University.

        Just for Tass!
"The number of political murders was a little under one million (800,000 - 900,000)." - chegitz guevara on the history of the USSR.
"I think the real figures probably are about a million or less." - David Irving on the number of Holocaust victims.

          Don't forget William and Mary!

On a more serious note, I'd favor names such as:

          Jefferson Lab
          Hawking Research Center
          Monrovia

as a counterpoint to the original Uop names' focus on Soviet scientists. I'm in favor of keeping some of the original names, and modifying others.

Looks great, but we should also keep some of the "old" names, they are also pretty good.
"Beware of he who would deny you access to information, for in his heart he dreams himself your master" - Commissioner Pravin Lal.

I agree. Many of the old names where quite inspired.
