  • Diplomatic Tidbits we can use

We have not met anyone yet but I was just wondering if we could gather any knowledge of the other teams as , despite the democracy nature of these games, the personalities and preferences of some leaders will creep in.

    1. The Drone leader is buster. he initially had his team join in late as he wanted to " teach" some folks some of the finer points of the game. I know buster to be a very strong player with the drones, perhaps the strongest player I have faced. He loves sea probes and will likely use them to get even in the technology race. Our seabases will be very vulnerable unless we establish a perimeter of chokepoints that we can monitor. Also on his team are mongoose and mark 13, both very experienced PBEMers. . . A team to be respected . . . I know of no weaknesses in their game

    2. CYC-- some of the names are vaguely familiar from the AC furums but I have never had a game with any of them

    3. The Hive-- despite their large numbers, I have likewise not played any of the Hivesters in a PBEM but I note that the bulk of their players are more democracy players and they seem to cherish the whole " democracy" aspect of the game. I don't know if this will have implications for gameplay other than detailed negotiations with them could be timeconsuming.

4 the UNI -- I have only ever played archaic ( I believe he is their leader) but have played him a few times and he was always the university. In each game he was a little underprepared in the military sense despite having a tech advantage. He seems to develop conventionally, has not ICSed in our previous games and was usually willing to trade technology (had the good sense though not to trade certain key techs). I don't know the remaining players

    General scuttlebutt

    a) the Hive seems to be upset with the UNI about turn times-- We culd hope that this and roleplaying SE settings would mean those two might be enemies

    b) a survey of the old demo game threads showed that there were some shots at archaic's by drogue and voltaire. Perhaps this might nmot influence diplomacy but we should be open to exploiting any distrust we see

I am very much liking these ideas!
I'm not conceited, conceit is a fault and I have no faults...
