  • Foreign Affairs discussion: Gift a base to Zakharov?

It has been suggested that we might be able to give a newly-founded Peacekeeping base to the University, allowing them to form a government-in-exile if overrun by the Hive. This thread is for discussion of that proposal. It seems premature to post a poll on it, so this thread is meant both to provide a forum to discuss whether this should be done and allow planning as to how it should be done, if we decide to.

Once there's a general consensus on a plan or several viable alternatives, I'll post a poll.

In the absence of any kind of peace witht he hive, Zakharov desperately needs somewhere to run to, so we should deifnitely give him a base somewhere. We may be able to retrieve it later by swapping it for one of his own liberated bases.

I support this idea on principle... but there's a practical matter: if there's suddenly a Uni in/near our territory, will Yang's troops come knocking? Are we prepared to deal with such an incursion? Or would the base we give be such that Yang wouldn't be in a position to hit us from it or near it?

The only reason Yang is concentrating on the university is because they're within reach rather than on the other side of an ocean. If Zakh moves across the ocean, Yang won't be able to hit them any mroe than us (although, OTOH, he won't have anything to distract him any more, either).

Ah. In that case, lets help Zakh out. We're gonna have to deal with the Hive either way, may as well save as many University refugees from Yang's madness as we can.

Time to wipe the floor with Yang

Or should we build bigger guns first?

We have all the toold we need either already or under development. Fusion Power will give us fuson reactors, and Organic Superlubricant will give us Fusion Lasers. That, mounted on needlejets, should be about all we need to crush the Hive (with, of course, some ground troopers to bring up the rear and garrison captured bases).

              Why save the Researcher?
IF he IS killed then we're the Brightest Researcher on Planet.
Also I dont feel too comfortable with an ENEMY Base within Territory.

We should save him because you never know when you might need an ally. Besides, we research faster than him already, and even if he gets all hid bases back, he still won't be faster than us.

I have a question : How do you intend to explain that to the citizens of the given base ?
"Just because you're paranoid doesnt mean there's not someone following me..."

No worries. We just make sure this is a volunteers only colony pod.

Also, don't forget everyone, a Pacted Zak is a Zak who'll be voting with us in council, and there's plenty of votes where pop doesn't matter.

Archaic has a good point. But can we give him a base with good defense but limited expansion potential.

gifting him a base near us will prevent him from being wiped out by yang (probably) and then once we liberate all his bases, we can gift them back to him so he can do our research for us

Votes can be bought even if by eliminating those who oppose the Proposal.

Am I correct in thinking that the proposal is to give Zakh a newly formed base (ie one we haven't built yet)? Or is that still up for discussion?

I'd vote yes on a newly formed base only.
