There is an abundance of special resources in the ocean, not just the freshwater sea. With a small amount of terraforming it can reap 6 nuts or 6 energy (IIRC), great for pop-booming and creating an energy powerhouse to house The Supercolider and The Theory of Everything (not to mention TKG's lab
