Indeed it has. This will be a close election, decided by the Lurkers and by people returning from all sorts of holidays. It'll be interesting to see how it turns out.
No offense taken BTW Echinda.

Nope. Take Maniac, for instance. He founded P4, and yet has been installed with very few abstains, because he's a good candidate.
However, I *do* take offense at this. The reason, as far as I can see, for people abstaining, is because they don't like me personally, not because of worries that I wouldn't be devoted to the position. To them, I say get over it. To everyone else, who's abstaining because they don't think I'd be a good enough canditate (I suppose there may be one or two of you), I ask why you didn't write in a canditate, or put one in in the first place? Not to mention refrained from much comment in the debate thread.

I agree I think this is pretty childish of you all. IF there was anohter candidate then ok but abstaining just because you dont like it....! COME ON

Again, abstain is a vote of no confidence. So...Abstaining because you dont like the candidate means you dont like the candidate and want a new one.

Exactly.
With all respect, Archaic, you can't expect there not to be a backlash against you if people don't like you. It's the way politics works. You try standing for parliament/congress/whatever if you've rubbed a large percentage of the electorate up the wrong way.
If I'd done that, I'd expect them to either donkey vote (Meaning they've given up their right to vote to try and make a statement), or vote for another canditate. 'Lo and behold, there is no other canditate. In that position, I'd expect to be elected unopposed. That's how things work.
Afterall, don't forget that in the Planetary Council, if only one person votes Yes and the rest Abstain, the measure passes. By Abstaining, you give up your right to vote. It's not a vote of no confidence. It's a vote of 'I'm making a statement that I don't like any of the options, so I'm not going to exercise my right to make a vote."
Hell, by the logic here, would anyone in the US be elected to their positions? Voter turnout there isn't even at 50% in many cases. Because all the other people abstained from voting should no canditate go into office?

Were not talking about the Planetary Council because this isnt the planetary council, we are talking about this election. There are a huge number of "abstain" votes and currently abstain is winning against you. This is (to my knowledge) not happening in any other election.
I doubt all these people just didnt want to vote. I personally voted as a vote of no confidence. I'm pretty sure most of the others did too. And I think most people are in agreement.....If abstain wins this election, then we will have another election for this position. We will continue to have elections until a candidate has been selected.
Yes. This is the precedent that's been set by prior democracy games, though, to my knowledge, it's never had to be used before.

Unfortunately, in the Planetary Council, there is the option of a nay vote. Our abstain is our way of a no-confidence vote. Bad example. Thank you, come again.
That's about all I've got to say on this matter. I'm not going to be drawn into a flame war.
If you're voting no confidence, *why* do you have no confidence. Explain your position beyond the rather obvious fact that you hate me for speaking up and out against you and your hypocrisy and give a few valid reasons for why you think I couldn't do the job. Otherwise, quite frankly I think we shouldn't have any confidence in your protest vote being anything but that.

The very sad fact that you are 'open'. This tells people that you do have striking rationale, but limited appreciation for other people's emotions tells something of a person. A human person needs emotions and understanding of them to operate as an individual in a community - this trait is vital for a person acting as the Director of a democracy game. If the Director acts coldly against other persons - whatever may these persons' opinions be, even obviously false - he won't get support from others.
Democracy is interacting with others. If you can't do that, it's not for you.
