  • Punishment Spheres...

I have heard some parties say they will build PS in bases with a populaiton of 1 as a penal colony, now that does not make sense to me, if you have drones in a base then that is primarily because drones are "created" when a certain pop is hit, and some are created when there are units out on patrol.

Now if peopk are saying that if there is a Drone riot that we just build a colony pod and transfer them to the penal colony that makes no sense to me, since the next time that base hits the pop mark that made the drone (of course it can be postponed by facilities but when even they dont work) then there will just be new drones.

If you make a colony pod the "pod" does not have drones it just has 10,000 populace.

So what I am getitng at here, is how can one Punishment Sphere solve our problems?

(I alreadyt know about the tactic of getting a strong mineral base with a PS and using it for unit support, I am talking about on a day to day civlian use)

Well, firstly we shouldn't be too badly off anyway, as being the UN we get empaths, or whatever the happy ones are called, with increased pop. Secondly I can see that by building the colony pod the pop drops below that that provoles the drone, so the problem is solved, for the moment. This would be a way of keeping an increasing population whilst maintaining the peace in our bases, but only the Punishment Dome ones would have any sizeable population, and they would be HUGE.

I haven't heard of this strat before, and it's kinda ingenious, but there are better ways of keeping the peace.

The only reason we'd want a Punishment Sphere base is to help combat the effects of Drones caused by Free Market to do with Noodles, extended periods of war, etc. Any other situations where there's Drone Riots, these would be controlled by Facilities, Specialists, and in extreme circumstances, Psych Allocation.

I never build Punishment Spheres in single-player (I like my technology points) and also never leave Free Market. You just need to be really, really, really careful.

i'm currently in 3 wars under market in SP. No problems, just using air units and drop garrisons. the pascifist drones aren't a problem at all with 20% psych, even with the university's +1 drone/4 citizens. IMO there's no need for a sphere under any circumstance (except that size 13 spartan base with 11 drones ) especially in the demo game.

Ah ! You finally got the point ! There's no need to torture all these citizens !!
And for the size13 spartan base, We talked about that before, just give the base to a pact mate or to the one who originally owed the base (in exchange for tech, peace, or whatever...).

finally?? that's what i've been saying all along! that size 13 base was in SP though, so different methods apply here.

TKG you said several times we'd need a PS to make a penal colony, and I always said I was against torturing citizens in punishment spheres, whatever the circumstance is.

Pandemoniak, reread our thread. TKG has always been P4's most fervent atrocity-abolisher.

no, the penal colony woudn't need a sphere if it was kept size 1, its citizen being a specialist. and now, i don't even see a need for that.

But how exactly can a penal colony work in game terms!!

technically, its a base with many units supported to it, with a punishment sphere (only applies with police rating of -3 or less)

Out of game terms, it's a base where you DO torture..
