  • Point of the game?

Recent discussion on whether we should have parties or not have made me thought about how exactly do people view this game... this is my first democracy game so I'm not really sure what people generally want from this sort of thing. Myself, I think of it as a mixture of roleplay and politics. Strategy comes on third place, mostly as means of political propaganda. But, I am afraid I might be horribly wrong because I lack the experience, so I am especially interested in what the veterans of other demo games think.

Optimal strategy. Democratic procedure only exists as a tool to come up with best possible moves.

Roleplaying. I don't care if we win or lose, or if my party is the biggest. I just want to stay in character and have fun.

Politics. This isn't about playing SMAC, it's about miniature political system where ideologies and egos clash, kind of like game inside a game.

To me this is pastime, entertainment. I do not play for the sake of the game itself or for the sake of any aspect of the game; I play to have fun, to lay my mind off the toils of regular all-day life. The same reason I play any PC games, really.

It never occurred to me that someone might play this to NOT have fun... maybe I should've added an "I'm a masochist and this is excellent means of torturing myself" option. Nah, what I'm mostly interesting in is what exactly makes this fun.

ok then it will be the roleplaying for me i think because that takes in alot of the aspects of the game likt strategy and politics

i got into this because i wanted to play SMAC, but political arguements are actually really fun. so is trying to persuade other people of the benefits of free market () or arguing with pandemoniak about punishment spheres

I also got into it for the Roleplay and especially because SMAC is the best game for a democracy game.

Roleplay, part of which is of course politics.

Role-play is definitely the most curtail element, IMO it makes things rather more interesting than just deciding the optimal strategy or playing around with political systems.

Playing the game, but I also enjoy role playing. I mean, without it, the UNN wouldn't exist. (Well it would....but it would be pretty boring too)

A mixture of roleplay and politics. While I certainly woud prefer to have political victories, to have EDP be a major mover and shaker, the most important thing for me is to play a role, and advocate the exploration and discovery, whether it's agreed to or not.

(BTW, I voted for Roleplay because it seemed closest.)
