  • The Order of the Templar

En Taro Adun, young Templar students. I am Praetor Fenix, and I have been asked by the Order to guide you through your inauguration ceremony.

Follow me. As you have come to the end of your studies, you are now allowed to enter the inner area of our Citadel, where the ceremony will happen.

    <img src=http://apolyton.net/upload/view.php?file=3088_ACDGIntroCitadel.jpg>

We have now reached the antechamber of the ceremony room. Here you see statues of the people who meant most to the Order of the Templar.

To the left of you, you find Saint-Tassadar and Saint-Adun.
Adun and Tassadar are the founders of our Templar Order in the dark era that was the twenty-first century. Without their vision, we would never have made it here to Chiron, our promised land.

To your right you find Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, our spiritual guidance. In his posthumously published book, The Phenomenon of Man, Teilhard sets forth a sweeping account of the unfolding of the material cosmos in the past up to and including the development of the noosphere in the present, and including his vision of the Omega Point in the future. In the original theory of Vernadsky, the noosphere is the third in a succession of phases of development of the universe, after the geosphere (inanimate matter) and the biosphere (biological life). Just as the emergence of life fundamentally transformed the geosphere, the emergence of human cognition fundamentally transforms the biosphere. The noosphere can be seen as the "sphere of human thought" being derived from the Greek "nous" meaning "mind". Just as the biosphere is composed of all the living organisms and their interactions, the noosphere is composed of all the interacting minds. This noosphere is evolving towards an ever greater integration, culminating in the Omega Point—which is the ultimate goal of history, the maximum level of complexity-consciousness, the final unity.

But no doubt you already know this. After all you have spent several year stu...

    *GONG*

Ah I hear the gong. It is time.

As some of you may know, I was originally born under the name Maniac. But as you join the Templar order, you begin a new life, and you need to choose a Christian name. So I became Fenix.

Now it is your turn. Step through the door, to the most sacred place in our Citadel, bow and repeat this oath, announcing your new name.

"I, Praetor Fenix, swear to uphold the honour and traditions of the Templar."

        Welcome to the Templar!

(Don't the Templar in SC only have one Praetor though?)

We of course need an Executor to control our military forces, Judicators to govern certain aspects of our future province of Aiur...

I shall bring the word to the ignorant of the high way of the Khala!

(PS: Don't you think that if we go into this Protoss thing, it would be more interesting to set up a sort of story like Protoss refugees fleeing from devasted Aiur to Chiron... hope Zergs won't follow )

Idea: Set up a light Starcraft mod (maybe using some of progenitor graphics, there is some ressemblance with the Protoss, don't you think so?)

EDIT: Sorry about the "Praetor", but I don't remember very well Protoss rankings, and since we don't know how the demogame will exactly function yet, they are not really significant...

Could be cool. Though I'm not sure other people would appreciate having real Protoss in the faction. Would be hard to fit in the existing SMAC story.

In any case, the Protoss are a good template for an order of warriors with psionic affinity, which does fit perfectly in the SMAC environment.

As for the Zerg, well, they do have some resemblance to Chiron's native life: both bugs controlled by an overmind.

Yeah I had thought of that as well. The main problem I see is that while the human and Progenitor graphics could be used for the Terrans and Protoss, for the Zerg you'd really need custom graphics. And there aren't enough free spots in Units.pcx to represent enough Zerg units.

Most of the zergs use hydras, glings and mutas anyway (=> SL, MW, locusts!)
