Hello folks! I have a few questions for Deity level players. A few things that I am struggling with and would love a resolution to. Today I'm focusing on a specific situation, tomorrow may be different.
1) ICS strategy with Arabia. On a standard pangea, founding a religion is *tough*. Even purchasing shrines instead of defense (risky risky) gets me to about +6 faith, and heck even if I discover ruins with faith I still find that it's around turn 80 when I found a religion. Thoughts about how to speed this along? Changing the build order, or go fewer cities to start and open right to Temples before Construction?
2) IF I find myself lucky enough to found a religion, those little cities are already beginning to snowball convert by the jerk who's already enhanced his religion at turn 70. You can almost always bet that Boudicca, Haile, or some other power faither is going to be a neighbor. Even a standard deity civ who has religion as a second thought is likely to have at least founded a religion nearby, and long before you did. It is my hope that answering #1 will make this incidental, but I'm expressing it anyway.
3) Diplomacy. Having 8-10 cities by turn 100 makes everybody very angry. I'm poor with diplomacy, and end up with three AI declaring war. I can fight them off, but it's near impossible to make them Peace when I can't leave my own borders. Expansion becomes difficult at that point, tech begins to suffer, and then it's only a matter of time before I give in and start the cycle over circa turn 200. Is there a way to turn them toward each other? It's too early for espionage, which is fairly ineffective for diplomacy purposes anyway.
