United by Marraige

I was playing a game and a city state announced it was united by marriage to an AI and permanently joined them. How does this happen.

It is called Diplomatic Marriage. It comes with Gods and Kings and it is Austria's special ability. It states: Allied city states can be "married" into the empire or puppeted, both with gold.

So you played Civ5: Gods and Kings, Austria was on the map and they were big buddies with a city state so that it joined.

i really like the mod, that gives that ability to all civs.. when placing three to four times the usual amount of city states on a map it becomes a real wedding race
