Help? Multiplayer not working

Okay guys I am "NEW" to the Civ V game but I have played Civ 2 but My friend has given me Civ V for the Mac. I think he might have torrented it . I do not know exactly but I would like to be able to play multiplayer. SO if anyone has any deas like , Patches or a file i can get from you that would allow me to play multiplayer then that would be Awesome.

If you are online and Steam lets you actually play the game, then you should have all the patches already. If there are updates available, it doesn't let you play the game, which is one reason I keep my Steam in Offline mode.

So, see if Steam has some updates. That's the only thing I can tell you.
