It's a simple matter of the whiners making the most noise. The happy people are playing the game, while the others simply whine about it
    Keep on Civin'

Significantly! I mean, Civ II did not have worker automation!
You know I don't think I've ever used this feature. Possibly comes of being a 'builder' but turning it on would leave me with even less to do.

Worker automation in Civ4 was seriously broken. Just plop a spy in an AI city and watch the craziness they do, then ask yourself if you want that for your empire.

If you set them to don't chop trees and don't change existing improvements, there was only so much damage they could do. SO while I usually didn't use it, in MP games with timers, later in the game I would automate most of my workers. (Especially those captured) That way when I lost some that would wander too close to the front, I didn't really care.
It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

Agreed that helps but I still wouldn't automate them, myself.

Thanks for the replies. Yes I am getting the game for Christmas. I plan on playing it. I liked the demo and I look forward to the new patch coming up this week. I remember yoiu Wodan11 from my Call to Power 2 days. Good times. I am currently engrossed in Gal civ 2 and I look forward to teh same with Civ 5. I remember what a tough sell Civ 4 was and it seems peeps have a short memory. I do believe this game will get (much) better with a few expansions we all just have to be patient.

I have been playing Civ for a long time. Each new version and expansion felt like an improvement on the previous while keeping the feel. I liked Civ IV so much that I delayed buying Civ V until I finished a multi-month game of Civ IV BtS. When I first started Civ V I was disappointed as things didn't work right. The problem was that I was expecting things to work basically the same. After playing through a game and a few dozen turns of a second, I had learned how to play the 'new' game. Civ V is much more like a different game than a continuing improvement of the series. looking at the game on its own, I like it the same as Civ IV. I plan on going back and forth between the two. (I haven't played the older versions after starting a new release as the older versions felt like they were missing something.) Since I haven't tired of Civ IV and it is so different from Civ V, I can play and have fun with both, depending on what I feel like at the time. I am hoping that a future relase will combine the best of both versions.
