  • Unit Supply

I am not sure what it does exactly, or how it effects unit maintenance, but it is listed in the economic overview tab.

I did not see an entry in the help.. errr.. Civilopedia menu either.

Your unit supply is based on number of cities and population. The number is the quantity of units your empire can support.

It has no effect until you exceed it. When you have more units than you have supply you get a production penalty for building new units.

      Thank you!

How did you find this out? Game manual? Elsewhere? I didn't see it in-game.

I went over supply. The first unit over was 10% penalty. The second was 20%, and so on.

The amount of penalty is from memory and I could be off a bit.

Hell, I usually become broke before I can do it (well, except if I have very few cites in the beginning of the game). The end game units are very expensive. I still do not understand how the maintenance cost is calculated, there is no way to track this information in game.

Did you know, if you hover over the Unit Costs in the F2, it tells how they are calculated?

The more units you have, the more each will cost, but only by perhaps a couple percent (checked by comparing F2 Unit Costs 'hover' before & after deleting a unit, military or not). The majority of cost is determined by how late you are in the game (i.e., inflation). Compared to civ4, this is okay by me since unit costs seem to be the ONLY thing affected by inflation.
