      What about multiplayer?

If it's anything like FPS games, if you don't buy the map packs it's hard to find MP games.

I suppose they had to charge for them or the owners of the various deluxe editions would get pissed

Are these maps included in the Deluxe editions?

Charging you for maps is lame.

Though, if it was a decent whole world map with real world start locations, and there isn't one in the game, I suppose that three bucks might be worth it to me, since that's the way I like to play...and haven't been able to since civ2.
              I don't know what I've been told!

You can download that for free. Look in mods, rank by popularity, think it's the most popular one or at least it was when I got it.

We have to pay for marketing, G&A, overhead, and processing the sale. The actual profit generated from $2.99 is going to be tiny.

wodan11, the profit they generate per DLC is huge.

                      1) it's a digital download; no physical distribution involved. instead Steam gets % piece of the pie.
                      2) g&a&processing = part of the Steam deal. Steam takes care of that, and arranges the creditcard fee (3% per sale by Visa/Mastercard... why did you think you can get a 3% discount if you pay cash? )

word on the street is that big publishers pay 40%. no data to back it up though.

that would leave 1.80 for Firaxis.

from that point it depends on how Firaxis books its costs. i think we can safely assume that the costs of these maps have been included in the initial development cost, and booked towards the main project. as such my assumption is that Firaxis makes the full $1.80 per sale, at least superficially.

the best reason not to buy this DLC - you get a free random map every time you start a game.

OR: The game is half-baked and worthless in its current state anyway

how many hours did you play the game Asher? i'm sure you'll find it gave you some decent pleasure along the way before you ran into the structural hurdles. it's -26 in your part of canada now i heard, i'm sure it beats playing soccer outside.

i wouldn't go as far to say that it's worthless. it has its merits, and its faults. over the next few years we'll see various patches, extensions, and interesting mods.

i predict this: four years from now, you will be the first to say that Civ Six sucks, that Civ5-beyond-the-whatever rocks your socks, and that everything was much better in the past!

I've played 3-4 hours, a single game. Haven't been compelled to play again.

There are tons of much better games to play, which is what I'm doing.

Will check back after a couple expansions.
