  • Whatever happened to the worldbuilder?

I thought the worldbuilder was supposed to be integrated into the game, where you could just pull things up from within a game and modify them on the fly? Did I misunderstand? Am I thinking of something else? I can open and use the worldbuilder from the SDK, but can't modify any existing game world.
Age and treachery will defeat youth and skill every time.

There is a map editor and a modbuilding IDE, but they are separate (and you need to download them separately from Steam). There is no integrated WorldBuilder any more.

That may be the only thing I really miss from Civ IV. I used to like to pull up the worldbuilder right after the map was generated and make sure that the polar ice caps were clear of the continents. For some reason the default map generator liked to make things nigh-impassable at both poles much of the time. It was also occasionally good to make sure none of the AIs had a starting setup that was going to cripple them, etc.

But that said, the map gen in Civ5 seems to be a little better in general.
