  • Great Generals: Gameplay Mechanic or Bug?

I acquired a great general through combat, and then later, another through the warrior code social policy.

Only problem is, after I got the second great general, the first seems to have disappeared.

Is this a bug? Or is there a gameplay mechanic limiting the number of great generals to one?

I had 2 generals in a game 2 days ago, so must be some kind of bug if you didn´t use it for a Golden Age, Citadel or it died some way.

I've also had two simultaneously with no problems.

Were you playing MP? There have been plenty of instances of units randomly disappearing in MP.

A citadel could be very usefull I've noticed. I think you get a HP bonus of your great general is in the field, stacked with a military unit. But the old "Military academy" of civ4 was the best option. Now is not that importand anymore I think. Or perhaps you guys do other things with your general?

Well, aside from using him together with your army, to get the bonus,
it can often be helpful to start golden ages with surplus generals

This. I use one with my army, and the rest I either use right away for a golden age or hold on to it if I think I'll need it soon (steam power, for example). I've never found much long-term use for citadels, since generally war = border expansion.

I had one used on me viciously in MP the other day so the citadel can make a big difference in that sort of situation, when there is no long-term to consider.

I had 3 generals in SP at the same time.
But I did have instances in SP units disappearing and APPEARING! Also, one scout should have died after the battle, instead it appeared in full health and next turn it managed to kill whoever attacked it... I call it zombie scout bug.
The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so
certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts.

End game barbarians should totally be zombies. Zombie mods are totally original and have never been done ever before.
