  • I created the "Diplo Gamers Clan"! Diplogamers: join!

So this new Apolyton Arena allows us to play as a 'clan'.
Why don't we form this Diplo clan and play in the Arena a game as a team now and then, allowing ourselves as well to spread the word about diplogaming more!

If you want to join, let me know and I'll add you! (or maybe you can join yourself, I don't even know )

Anyone can apply for a clan, with an application text or without - the captain can confirm or deny an application in the captain panel.

I still haven't been able to join the Arena, it keeps telling me my ID can only contain numbers. However if I can manage to get signed up, I'd like to be in this clan as well.

Can you make a screenshot of that error so that our programmer (Imhotep) can have a look at it?

Sure. I went into some detail on the arena bug sticky as well.

I got the same thing. I'm not at home so I can't look at Steam right now, but I just assumed that "Steam ID" is different from "Steam Username". I figured I'd try to find some number ID when I got home. But if it is a bug, then that's good to know too.

Yeah, I thought that same thing too, but I went everywhere I could think of in Steam and the only number I could find was my credit card info. I mean, I want to play organized MP games, but not so badly I'll give my CC over.

Hmmmm, that's a good one. I now remember that I activated my account in test with a bogus ID, and this has been transfered to here. Now I understand it's about the Steam ID, not the Apolyton ID. There are 3 kinds of Steam ID's, btw. The name (only if you have activated this in steam), the short ID and the long ID. Do a google search on how to get all of them.

Apparently only one of these works.

Remember, this is Steam we are talking about.

Ah ha. OK, I did a little searching and found it. Thanks.

If it's any help, this website makes it super easy to find it, you just have to type in your user name and then copy the numbers that appear after the final colon.

Steam ID Finder is a tool that allows you to find your steam ID quickly and easily. Use our checker for SteamId lookup and as a Steam Hex Id finder

I posted a FAQ at CivPlayers a few days ago, on Steam ID's here, with screenshots. It's slightly more complex than just using steamidfinder and it requires two steps.

This is no bug, it works as expected. We want the long ID in that field. The implementation of all those IDs has been done poorly by steam, it does not even allow 100% identification, at least not on first glance. That's why I wanted the long ID in the player profile - I'll set up some tools to make identification easier and more trustworthy.

Yes I agree the way Steam is setup allowing players to set any display name at all is a pain, conbine that with Civ5 not having a build in way to view the true ID of a player, leaves us with a round-a-bout way of verifying players by having them on your steam friends list, using steamidfinder to see their 64bit ID if needed, and cross referencing that to the Civplayers Player profile and the Steam ID listed their. Not primo for sure, and we at CP plan on a mod to register players as then enter the game against our player database. I've been told by Firaxis that Civ5 does expose the Steam 64bit ID to mods, it just doesn't give that info in it's own UI :-/
