However I totally agree about the DirectX 11 thing. It gives you the option to make a shortcut that supposedly takes you directly to the DirectX 11 version, but the "choose 9 or 10/11" window comes up anyway. If this can't be automatically detected (why not?) then I should have only needed to make the choice once.
Yep, it seems like the selector between DX9/11 that was programmed by Firaxis
is wrapped up in a DX9/11-Version selector made by Steam,
without the Steam selector being able to communicate the choice to the Firaxis-Selector

Firaxis, can please eliminate steps 2 through 5, so I only double click on the desktop icon and I'm taking emmidately to the main menu, no DX choices, no accepting agreements, no videos etc...

The way it is now, i get annoyed with the game before its even launched!
    +1 Agree!

I think your Ctl-alt-dlt problem isn't the game, but something with you processing it. I've noticed that hitting esc still gives me about 3-4 seconds of the video and then the game loads. It used to go until "Welcome Back, I've missed you." Now it seems to cut a second before that point. But I haven't had any crashes because of it (although I have had crashes after a save loads. That's not fun).

Since the last patch download I've been noticing that if I hit ESC during the intro the intro movie terminates sooner, but I get a black screen that just hangs indefinitely. I have to hit CTRL-ALT-DEL to bring up the Task Manager then cancel the task manager to coax the game to move on.

    Yes, very silly.

P.S. The reason why the intro video takes a while before you can skip it, it's because the game is loading in the background while it distracts you with pretty pictures of an old man. Editing the .ini file just means you can stare at a black screen instead.
But hiding the loading screen behind a intro movie means that the user has no idea when the loading is done without experimentation.

    How do you do that?

It seems that the only one for the intro video is in UserSettings.ini, there doesn't seem to be one in GraphicsSettingsDX9.ini or in config.ini. The minor nuisance is that you get about 30 seconds of featureless black screen while the thing loads. So your choice: interrupt the video after 30 seconds (or so), or black screen for 30 seconds (or so).

Post in 2K forums, it has better viability there for Firaxis.
