  • Performance Requirements

This game is running great for me with 2 GB of RAM, dual 9800s, and a Core 2 Duo (so dual core). It seems they greatly exaggerated the performance requirements. What is everyone elses' experience? Any horror stories?

Marathon, huge, 12 civs, with AMD dualcore newest generation, 3GHz, 4 GB RAM and ATi DX11 Graphics card...
at the moment around 1400 AD...
usually it takes ~30 sec to calculate the turns

Turns take a while for me too but the graphics are perfectly snappy.

        Same for me...
        graphics are superb with DX11...
especially the ocean with its tiny waves...
never saw a better one in a game (at least not from this POV...it truely shows the power of Tesselation)

I'm well above recommended specs so it's running super smooth for me. Glad it's doing well for those in a lower range.

BTW I played an epic huge map with 12 AI and by the early 1900's I was timing my between-turn time at 90 seconds. It eventually reached 2 full minutes and I gave up. I was about to be crushed by my giant neighbor, but I'd have hung around if it weren't for the time spend waiting.

On large maps the between turn time has never gotten above 30 second for me, and that's fine in the modern era, there's a lot going on.
          What's up, hot dog?

Lols... Huge map, epic, max civs... Reached Modern era. Turn times are about 2min's with regular crashes (all performance related) CPU, as in both cores are dancing around 80-90%

I guess this is normal since Firaxis finally made a turn based Rise of Nations / Supreme Commander for the console generation who likes to feel smart

huge map, marathon around turn 850 my game crashed a few times, basically forcing me to do a UN win fast.

              8GB Win 7 x64, AMD Phenom 2 x6 1055T 2.80 GHz, ATI HD 5800

I've been playing on a small map with 4 civs, 8 citystates and normal speed. Maybe that is why I am not having issues.

I think the main reason for 4 cores is the map size. I play on small maps for this reason ( dual core at 2.7MHz) and the game is very smooth and the wait time between turns is short (5-10 secs may be?). I had never enjoyed huge maps anyway - in huge map you play at best on a half of it (and conquest victory is a micro nightmare)

For me it's GPU overheat, system shutdown after 100 turns.

The one really cool thing about the DirectX 11 build of the game is the multi-core support. Watching my 8 processors (4 real, 4 virtual) in the task manager, and they're all being utilized during the game. Presumably for rendering (which is really easy to do on multi-cores in DX11), but probably also AI.

Am playing it mostly on a 3 GHz Pent 4 Windows XP (yeah, yeah it's old) w/ 2 GB of RAM and an NVIDIA GeForce 8400 video card. As long as I stay with standard or less maps it seems to play fine. Turn time slows towards the end of the game, but not horribly so. Am slowly working out what level of game graphics my comp can handle. But as nice as it is to see all the pretty, as long as the game play is smooth, I'm happy.

Hey, me too, though I have 3GB RAM and an older card. The game creaks, especially in the later stages, but the real bugbear is that from clicking on the icon to being in the game takes 8 minutes. Fortunately my quad laptop copes fine, but it does mean I'll have to buy the wife her own!

Seems like while the requirements are just fine to run the game it suffers from various slowdowns and occasional bugs that can really suck down your performance. I can play the game just fine until I randomly drop down to single-digit FPS until I restart the game. I also encounter the very long turn times on big maps but turning on Strategic View right before you end your turn seems to help a bit.

I doubt that AI uses DirectX, but who knows... Did you notice spike of the ALL processor's loads when you hit end of turn button?
