  • This Game is Buggy

Not to be surprised as, the Civ 4 release was very buggy, but Civ 5 is not much better.

I have been perpetually stuck in a state of peace in my first game from a treaty. After some time I managed to navigate and find the deal history with Montezuma and found that I made a 10 turn peace treaty some 90 turns ago....

In addition to this, I seem to be charged ridiculous amounts of maintenance for my troops even though I'm well within supply. (THe civilopedia seems to gleam no light on the subject as well even though it proclaims to in the "unit" section).

Wondering if I shouldn't take a month off till I start playing for real as was necessary under Civ4.

Maintenance costs are very different in Civ V. They increase over time, I believe they jump up with each era. A unit that costs one gold per turn in the beginning will cost eight gold per turn in the industrial age. I wrote a big thread about this called "Late Game Economic Concerns" on this board, there's a lot of talk about the new maintenance, happiness, and economic models.

The civilopedia does a terrible job at explaining this.

I've played two games well into the industrial age, and both times my income took a nosedive, and I only had a ten or twelve unit standing army, along with four or five workers. I like the idea of scaling the maintenance costs over time, but they need to tweak them a bit so there's not such a wild jump. On the flip side, once you realize that one unit doesn't equal one gold, it adds to the strategy of unit building decisions.
