I don't need people listen to me. Also, I'm fully aware my ideas will never get implemented because it's not about putting out a game anymore so much as it is seeing how long they can carry on the franchise without actually doing anything. It's interesting to me that we can look back starting with Civ3 where the name of the game becomes "simplification." So basically their idea of a new game is taking things out of the game, giving it a graphics update, and then saying it's a new game. Why would I even begin to waste my time working with a company that operates like that? There is no way in hell I'd want to have my name associated with them. At this point, my only reason for posting in this thread is seeing how high I can get the post and view count. At the end of the day, none of this matters to me in the slightest.

there's nothing stopping you from creating the DriXnaK uber-super-mega-scoobydoobie multiplayer mod. if you wanted to have a bigger influence on the game, you should have made a substantiated argument to the developers a year ago.

You should try not failing at reading comprehension so much. They don't listen to their beta testers, and they don't listen to anyone else for that matter. Also, why the **** would I make a mod and program all kinds of **** and do so much work for a ****ing game that I paid for? Are you a ****ing Euro commie or what? Like I said, if I'm going to play a game I'll stick to a company much larger and more successful like Blizzard that doesn't put out Beta v2 as their finished product and think that MP isn't a necessary feature.

There is some truth there. The part about ideas never getting implemented. As testers, all we can do is recommend and comment, we did not have editorial control. Yes they did take some of the suggestions and ignored others. There were a lot of major changes recommended for MP, but time and money constraints had to be considered as part of the equation. At the end of the day, money is king. A fantastic game that is only bought by a few thousand diehard MP players is not the perfect economic model. There will alway be compromises. Your voice might have been the difference in some of those discussions. We'll never know.

I'm sure that will just go great for a dying site. lol As for you Rah, why is it that companies like Blizzard and so many others make their games mostly based around MP and those games are hugely popular and successful? Face it, it's not about making the game better or putting out something decent. MP costs money, and it requires that you actually build a game with things like game balance and new features. That's not the Firaxis busines model. So much easier to keep milking your fan base by putting out a half finished game and then letting them mod it however they want without actually doing anything with the game. I mean really, their biggest addition was hex tiles (which should have been in Civ3) and non-stacked combat which existed in Civ1 and Civ2. So what do we really have here other than a super dumbed down Civ4 with less options being passed off as a totally new revolutionary game? It's laughable but people still buy it. That's brand power right there. It can't last forever though. Civ5 will be the first real dent into the franchise.

Bragging about views and post counts is a bit sad, really. Just because lots of people check in to laugh at the loony isn't in itself reason for the loony to be proud. It's like a car-crash. Everyone slows down to have a good look.

Seriously though, you should design your own game. The free market will decide how good it is - if you believe in such things of course.

You need funding and investment. Not to mention the fact that the game industry is completely oversaturated and PC gaming is headed towards mass production of cheap trash known as the free MMORPG. They're even coming out with an Age of Empires free MMORGP. Yes, I'm not joking. Also, you look at DLC and everything else and I don't really see where the industry has a future on the track they're going. Future games aren't going to be so much about gameplay, it's going to be about psychological gimmicks. For example, many of these free MMORGPs are nothing more than glorified online casinos. They have flashing boxes and everything else that you purchase to get special in game items at random. It's no different than pulling the handle on a slot machine. Mark my words, there will be a free MMORPG Civilization themed game come out in about 2 years.

i don't think i fail at reading comprehension. i'm finishing writing an academic book and half-way through a second one. trust me, if you can write, you can also read.

the books are in part about the benefits of stock trading to society, so i don't think i'm a commie.

being the upstanding capitalist that you are, you should realise that buying a product is an act of free will. so complaining about the product, after beta testing it and understanding the pros and cons, means that you're either stupid, or forced to buy the product at gun-point. i'd give you the benefit of the doubt, but i don't think anyone would be able to hold you hostage for that long without shooting you.

firaxis probably didn't listen to you, as you can only communicate with explicatives. maybe you didn't research chivalry yet.
