Is it possible? I have played Civ4 on my Win2k system and I do not foresee upgrading ($100+) just to play Civ5. Could it run on Linux? Win2k is my last Msoft OS, I am moving myself to Linux.
No, it will not work on Windows 2000. That OS is 11 years old.
If you are moving to Linux, you better start getting used to not having quality software on your desktop. Consider FreeCiv instead.

Ben Kenobi: "That means I'm doing something right. "
Win2k is oooooold. You won't get that to work I think.

If you can get DirectX 9.0c, running on your computer, Civ5 may run, barely. I got Civ4 more or less running on my Win98 computer but that wasn't really fun.
As far as I can see you could simply try the demo. And even after all its still just one more turn get a new computer.
By the way you haven't told us whether your computer meets otherwise the requirements of Civ5.
