Has Firaxis announced the date of the first patch for Civ 5 yet?

I'd guess they're still patching things today. An example from the videos we've seen would be the city walls. In the two hour videos, the city walls were black circles. In the more recent videos they are clearly properly rendered (is that the right word?) as white with colored piping.

I assume there will be "day 0" patch. I.e. first time you connect to activate the game through STEAM, they will patch it. It would be stupid for them not to use this opportunity, because everyone have to go to STEAM online at least 1 time - first time you launch the game. After that STEAM may be in offline mode forever for some of the players.

If you have preloaded C5, there is a small, no larger than 18 MB download for the game that you need to get.
You just wasted six ... no, seven ... seconds of your life reading this sentence.

              steam patches automatically,

hopefully the days of big massive patch releases are over, steam is ideal for small regular patching, this is particularly useful when fixing balance issues IMO.

I've just downloaded the newest Civ V podcasts (10, 11, and 12 dropped today).

Listening to Ep 10, they're already discussing areas they need to tweak and improve (presumably post-release). At 4:54, John Shafer is discussing the changes to happiness in Civ V. I cleaned up some "uhs" and "ums" from the quote.

"Like previous Civilization games, the size of your cities is a pretty important part of that. There's also a factor for capturing cities. So you capture a lot of cities, you're going to have to deal with that more. We're still working on calibrating the numbers and the balance on things, so it can be a little challenging or a little easy at times. Even at some points. We're still working on trying to get that tuned up correctly."

It sounds like they're already planning to tweak any unbalanced aspects of the game as they come up. Hopefully the "tuning up" will be just minor nudging here and there.

I'm kind of surprised because there is normally a zero day patch. One of the reasons we're supposed to put up with steam is so we can get easy access to patches and new down-loadable content so you'd figure they'd actually have frequent patches since that's supposed to be a selling point.

The selling point of Steam is frequent patches?

When I went into STEAM today, it downloaded something that took up 17.3 MB and a few minutes of download time, that was somehow related to the game, which I've preloaded. I'm assuming that it was a patch.
