  • Will the official 2K Forums undermine independent civ sites?

I'm thinking it will as their official forums will no doubt get shout outs from the load screen or something of that sort just as they now get a link directly from the Civ5 website.

I don't think so. Official sites start to sound like fan boy sites and get boring. Think of when civ III came out and sucked. While we tried to keep the bashing a little in check the independent sites were the only places where you could read about the problems with the game.
It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

There were official forums for civ since civ3 indeed.
An official forum can never become a community because it's members can never really contribute. And of course we will here at Apolyton do our very best to make sure that we have more to offer then any official forum ever will!

As long as they allow players to "bookmark" fan sites in the ingame interface, I don't really care what default site they use. And you are certainly right the 2K forums are marginally useful at best, wven with 2K Liz running them, she is severely constrained by 2K marketing policy. We who run fan sites are not, and that will always make the difference.
