Would you care to quote the source for this statement?

      I'm pretty sure he can't.

That wouldn't surprise me either. Although the reason most are negative is because of stupid ideas that break the game just kept on getting floated, and shooting them down gets wearying after a while.
You just wasted six ... no, seven ... seconds of your life reading this sentence.

I remember that there was a campaign by Firaxis in the past (I think it was before civ4) to find beta testers.
This time I haven't heard about such a thing and that is why I started this thread.
It is comforting however, that they are still using the community, although silently.

I think you are thinking of the C3C beta test were BreakAway Games(under contract to Firaxis) ran an online application process to select testers. Firaxis has not done that since for a Civ game, although they did do it for Col2 but they were apparently looking for people that had played the original extensively. Which is a demographic not easily found in the community now.

Conversely, it is easy to find dedicated and knowledgeable civ players in the community, so my guess is that they will go back to using community leaders to recommend testers as they have in the past.

Of course I could be completely wrong too, they are free to do what ever they want.
