  • Does anyone still play Civ1 here?

I was wondering if anyone around here still plays Civ1. If so, could we get a succession game going over here? I know there's one trying to get otself together over at civfanatics, maybe some of you could help us out over there.

I'd have to dig out my game and see if it works - I'll also have to brush up on my rules, and someone will have to define what is and isn't a cheat, but i may be interested

Sorry, I don't even know if I still have the floppies at home, leave alone knowing where they might be or whether they still work.

Besides, I would not be anyway interested in succession games at all.
      Thanks for offering.

        Sorry, I haven't played Civ1 since Civ2 came out. I haven't played Civ2 for a few years either.

"Does anyone still play Civ1 here?"

Of course. I love the cheesy little units and the funny leader animations. Ah I'm nostalgic. Well sometimes when I'm in the mood a fire up a nice little game of the jewel known as CIV I. A game that started a revolution lasting till today and will surely go on

I do still play CivNet, and sometimes I play Civ1 (the DOS version)

I just found my floppies for this the other day and I'll be damned they still work!!!

The only problem is that the game runs, but it runs so SLOW. The units move slow, the animations are slow, and the music is slow.

I remember this game running faster on my old 486 when I first got it!!!

Any idea on what the problem could be? I'm running it in a DOS Window under Windows ME.

Well, I don't have ME, but I've heard it doesn't do DOS well.
Try booting up in DOS. That's really all I can say.

Yes, you should either make a boot disk, boot by using F8 or burn a boot cd that you have installed the game on. (The boot CD is a good thing just boot it and start playing )

Hmm...my version of Civ1 is for Windows, so I doubt the save files would be compatible with those of you having the DOS version.

                      Sorry for the late reply.........

But I think I couldn't participate as I only have Civnet left, can't find my Civ 1 anymore...........Plus I finished searching after 200+ disks........Did I ever have so many, or did they reproduce

I play em all - colonization, civ1 (windows version though), vanilla civ2 (latest patch -cannot find mpge),civ3, smac/smax

Actually, I found civ1 to be more challenging (at the time) than I found civ2.....probably because I play better now

I still do play CIV 1, from time to time, but compared to CIV 2, I still find it harder. The AI's are more agressive and are more in for surprises. OK, I agree, both are 'easy' to be beaten..........

But still in both cases OCC is possible...........

I would have to find my disks like others but I would be interested in a challenge this summer.

I play it once a year or so, just to recall the wonderful hours and days spent once.
