    dojoboy:

I can't believe it. What the hell is management thinking? Oh, right, they're not. If they think Civ III hasn't done well on the Mac right now, it damn well won't get any better w/the lack of PtW.

Dammit to hell. I refuse to spend $2700 on a platform that I can't even enjoy one game on, and that has a frickin stupid OS policy that makes older games useless.

Actually, to do everday things and play games, not much; $800 - $1000 dollars.

Yeah, that's not much at all. But I've always preferred quality over quantity ... **sigh** ... plus I'm not that well-versed in the PC, other than knowing that it takes two steps there to perform a function that would only take one step with the Macintosh.

The part about Infogrames giving MacSoft the thumbs up was communicated by a Firaxis employee who passed along the code. This was all detailed over at the Mac CFC forum some time ago. I spoke w/ MacSoft after they were purchased by Destineer, which is how I learned there were no plans (discussion) for a PTW port.

Hmm ... y'know, a faint glimmer of hope within me is banking on the possibility that this was yet another miscommunication; IOW, the right hand doesn't necessarily know what the left hand is doing.

Dojoboy, who did you speak to? Was it a public relations type person, or someone actually involved with the PtW port (or other related programming endeavors)? I'm curious because I know departments w/i the same company don't always know what another department is doing — i.e., if you called my employer, got the advertising department and then proceeded to ask an editorial question, you'd likely get the wrong information (or, more likely, be transferred ... but it all depends on the time of day and who's in editorial when the call comes in).

Bradman, are you saying you've heard nothing about the cancelation of the Civ III PtW port for the Mac? I so hope that this is true, that it was all a miscommunication.

Well, put it this way. One day I called and spoke to Al Schilling (about MoO3). The day in question I called and spoke to a "receptionist" who then put me on hold for about 20 seconds and came back w/ the reply, "No." This company isn't that big, but I also hope PTW is in the mix.

The Destineer buyout of MacSoft did nothing but increase the odds of Mac PTW, but by the same token that does not necessarily mean that it is happening. Until you see a public announcement from MacSoft one way or the other, I think it is safe to assume that the status is undetermined. Beyond that, I'm not in a position to say - that's entirely in MacSoft's PR realm.

Well, it would do a world of wonder for Macsoft's public relations if they did go ahead with the PtW port. But if they don't do something soon, Civ IV will be coming out for the PC and Apple will be unveiling its OS 11 system.
