Well I went. Didn't get to try out the new 17 inch screen Titanium Powerbook G4 or the 12 inch screen Titanium Powerbook G4. It was cool tho, and someone sold my friend 256 mb of ram which was actually 128.

The next big thing from Apple: The new 17-inch PowerBook G4. Featuring the largest, most spectacular display ever to grace a portable, miraculously engineered into a 1-inch-thin notebook that’s ultralight (just 6.8 pounds), ultradesirable — and starts at $3299.

Megawide 17-inch display
It’s the first thing you’ll notice about the world’s first notebook computer with a 17-inch display, the largest ever in a notebook. When open, it’s vast. This PowerBook’s breathtaking display offers the same viewing area as a 19-inch CRT monitor. You’ll love the amount of information you can see on the screen at one time. Futuristic backlit keyboard with ambient light sensor
Another first from Apple featured on the new 17-inch PowerBook G4: a unique fiber optic backlit keyboard with laser-etched keys that’s right out of the future. A light sensor automatically adjusts the keyboard and screen brightness based on the available ambient light. In low light, for example, the PowerBook G4 automatically lowers its display backlight and turns on the backlit keyboard. Then light-emitting fiber optic strands located under the keyboard come to life and illuminate the backlit keyboard so you can continue to work, unaffected by the change in ambient light.

The legendary SuperDrive
Your PowerBook G4 with SuperDrive (DVD-R/CD-RW) comes loaded with iDVD software, and can be used to burn DVDs which can be played in most consumer DVD players. The SuperDrive also lets you use iTunes to burn your own music CDs, and the Disc Burner feature in Mac OS X to burn data CDs. The SuperDrive reads DVD titles at 6x, and writes to 4.7-gigabyte DVD-R discs at 1x.

Fast FireWire 800

The 17-inch PowerBook G4 comes with AirPort Extreme installed. Sync with Bluetooth

High-speed architecture

Never before has professional-quality DVD-burning on the go been as affordable as it is with this new batch of SuperDrive-equipped PowerBook G4 models.

If you think about it, what you’re looking at is a matchless feat of engineering. Consider the fact that when Apple first introduced the SuperDrive on high-end Power Mac G4 workstations, DVD recording systems typically cost over $15,000. Suddenly, thanks to the SuperDrive and iDVD 3 software, DVD-burning capabilities were within the reach of all Power Mac customers.

The question remained, however, whether the legendary SuperDrive could be engineered into a notebook as slim as the PowerBook G4. The answer was yes, and when the first SuperDrive-equipped PowerBook G4 was announced, it won an instant following.

The SuperDrive-equipped PowerBook G4 lets you add professional-quality DVD production to your skill-set. Besides outstanding production values, the DVD format lets you add scads of bonus material — like stills, interviews, soundbites, theme music and in-depth background information — to your movies and presentations. The SuperDrive (DVD-R/CD-RW) lets you read and burn music and data CDs, as well as DVDs that can be played in most consumer DVD players. The SuperDrive plays DVD movies — the kind you buy or rent — and writes to 4.7-gigabyte DVD-R discs, and it reads CDs and writes to CD-R and CD-RW disks.

Two ways to create your own DVDs
There are two software applications that enable you to create your own DVDs. Naturally, they both come from Apple: iDVD 3 and DVD Studio Pro. iDVD 3, which comes included on your SuperDrive-equipped PowerBook G4, gives you a simple, one-window interface for assembling DVDs with drag-and-drop ease of use. DVD Studio Pro, on the other hand, is a high-end, prescription-strength DVD authoring application with precise controls designed to satisfy the most demanding perfectionist. Both applications come with QuickTime MPEG encoding capabilities that have effectively changed the rules in the DVD publishing industry.

Data archiving on CD and DVD
Optical discs are ideal for backup because they offer huge capacity in a format that’s both easy to store and lasts a long time. CDs can hold up to 650MB of data, more than 450 times as much as a floppy disk. DVDs can store a mind-boggling 4.7GB of data, the equivalent of about 18 Zip 250 disks or 3200 floppy disks (in case you’re interested, that’s a stack of floppies over 40 feet high). With this kind of capacity, you can easily back up your portfolio, your entire digital photo collection, up to 90 minutes of video or thousands of MP3 files — and store them safely for years.

The new 17-inch and 12-inch PowerBook G4 models now feature the NVIDIA GeForce 4 Go graphics processor. Coming from a company synonymous with high-end graphics, you know the GeForce4 Go will kick your 2D and 3D performance into overdrive. The GeForce4 Go family incorporates advanced features such as hardware transform and lighting as well as the Lightspeed Memory Architecture (LMA) II. Take this simple test
There’s a quick way to assess a computer’s graphics capability, and that’s by taking it out for a spin on a graphics-intensive 3D game. That’s because 3D games demand fast frame rates, and — since each frame of gaming action must be redrawn as quickly as possible — games routinely push the graphics processor to its limits. 802.11g AirPort Extreme (17-inch and 12-inch PowerBook G4 models) is a powerhouse in the performance department, with the new 802.11g technology delivering a wireless data rate of up to 54 megabits per second (Mbps). The fastest broadband connections typically achieve speeds up to 1.5Mbps. AirPort Extreme, on the other hand, lets you share files with others on your network at speeds of up to 54Mbps — over 35 times faster.


The turbocharged new technology that lets you connect to the Internet without wires, additional phone lines or complicated networking hardware — from anywhere in your home, school or office, up to 150 feet away from a base station.

AirPort Extreme consists of two components: the AirPort Extreme Card and the AirPort Extreme Base Station. Together, they represent the future of wireless networking.

You’ll see how fast this technology really is when you use AirPort Extreme to network other computers in your home or office. In a video production studio, for instance, users can transfer large digital video files between computers at astonishing speeds.

Hundreds of hotels around the world have made Wi-Fi compliant 802.11b wireless local area networks (WLANs) available in their guest rooms. Wayport, Inc., for instance, has provided wireless connectivity in thousands of rooms at more than 400 major hotels in the U.S. And because AirPort Extreme is 802.11b compatible, you can use your 17-inch or 12-inch PowerBook G4 (and, of course, your 15-inch model PowerBook G4) to surf the Internet in all of them. And with companies like the Surf and Sip Network creating many more locations to get online wirelessly, it’s getting to the point where you can log on to the Internet from practically anywhere.

, you can always lease one , .....

and they are not that expensive considering what you get , .... ask yourself , 'do i really need this' , if yes try to make a couple bucks out of it and earn the comp by using it , ....
