  • anyone tried the masochist cup?

I was cruisin jarvinen's MoM page and decided looking at the cups. This one really interested me.
not for the faint of heart.

from Brian Lee Jacobson (MoM FAQ Editor)

    Klackon Klunkers (Masochist Cup)
    1. Limit yourself to one city.
    2. Race - Klackons.
    3. No Heros, mercenaries, or summoned creatures.
    4. Skills:
    * Charismatic, Artificer (cruel since you can't use heros)
    * Channeler, Conjurer (cruel since you don't cast spells and summon creatures),
    * Alchemy (cruel since you are not using magic)
    * Remaining spell picks left - Nature x 5
    * Cast no spells at all, except Spell of Mastery.

has anyone done this one? I'm going to give it a try.

I don't have time for such nonsense. It would propably take ages to get there...

OTOH, Klackons have some decent attacking units, which can take out nodes and thus receive good items which can be transferred to mana...

Propably you should set magic allocation to no mana - 50% research - 50% casting skill. You won't be needing mana for a long time. And you can get it from good items found in the vaults/nodes/ect.
I'm not a complete idiot: some parts are still missing.

OK, I played it on easy and got plastered. the biggest problem isn't money, which you can alchemize from mana, it's trying get enough food to support a decent force.

I didn't even try going for spell of mastery. it would take too long with only one city, and being unable to summon magic spirits to meld with a node and add to your power.

I'm going to try for the halfling breeder cup next

That one deserves honorable mention for the title masochist's cup from all the tedium toward the end.

But he touched it too much!

And for the fact that halflings can't build roads, and if you keep a city long enough to make a couple of engineers, you run the risk of having the bug that you can't disband it for one of your halfling cities.
