To my recollection, there is no point inside the game online or printed documentation making reference to Heroes genders, other when that's implicit in their names (Witch, Amazon, Priestess, Huntress...) or blatantly evident from their portraits.
Now, I'm not a native english, but I figure that the female name for Illusionist is Illusionist as well.
Aerie is a fantasy name, I frankly wound't dismiss both interpretations, as a male or as a female name.
And the picture... well, the face is that of a child... I figure that a girl with short hair might well look that way... Although it's true that for other female characters MoM artists clearly used feminine features like long hair, earrings and the like...
I thought it was a him.
But on the MoM Heroes page (linked at thread top) that author refers to Aerie as a "her"...
I was surprised, but not upset, I thought it could be seen as a childish young woman as well.
Or do you have some more factual evidence, moomin?I don't exactly know what I mean by that, but I mean it (Holden Caulfield)

My old venerable MoM manual seems to think of it as a him. Perhaps a Prophet Dawn precursor, our Aerie?"The number of political murders was a little under one million (800,000 - 900,000)." - chegitz guevara on the history of the USSR.
"I think the real figures probably are about a million or less." - David Irving on the number of Holocaust victims.

I seem to remember reading in the manual it was a him too. If you ogo to that website you will see the webmaster embellishes a little bit. I know alot of what is written there is from his own imagination.

I don't mean to be nitpicking, but...

I still stand that NO point in the manual NOR the appendixes makes ANY kind of reference to Heroes names or genders.
They're generically described as a category, not as Individuals.
Torin himself is referenced as "The Chosen" but "Torin" name itself is never printed...
I have the original UK manual ©1994 by Microprose, 160 pages...

Anyway, I have no problem with Aerie being a him, that would be my choice too should I "vote" .
And I know that the linked Heroes site reports some made-up blurbs and some undocumented features (like the Fame effects?)
Yet, YOU picked on Tonic about Aerie's gender, and I just wanted to point out that you have no more factual ground than him to assert it's an "him" rather than a "her"...
Here we are, discussing about MoM Heroes's sex, like with angels it should be pretty moot, ain't it?I don't exactly know what I mean by that, but I mean it (Holden Caulfield)

I myself always considered Aerie a "she". That is why I seem to remember reading somewhere Aerie was a he, because I was shocked and confused, and questioning my sexualty. :P

Torin becomes overwhelmingly powerful if you get him from the start of the game. There is no question that he is worth playing, except that it becomes too easy.
...and I'm not really that good a MoM player."I'm so happy I could go and drive a car crash!"
"What do you mean do I rape strippers too? Is that an insult?"

I like the dude in a turban who is an archer. He usually comes fairly early when I play. I like to maximize my heroes by going the artificer route, and dressing him up with unbelievably powerful arms and armor, invisible, flying and maximal boni for his weapon. He also comes with his own money, which is nice. I like to get Allana too, but he is the one that tends to break open the game for me.He's got the Midas touch.
But he touched it too much!

yah, the dervish is helpful because of his nobility trait, which helps alot early in the game.

Malleus all the way. He's not a champ, but he kicks but like no one except for Torin and Warrax. Both of wich come much, much later in the game unless you play eleven life books."The number of political murders was a little under one million (800,000 - 900,000)." - chegitz guevara on the history of the USSR.
"I think the real figures probably are about a million or less." - David Irving on the number of Holocaust victims.

Hmm...
The thread title says "favorite" champion (not "best").
So, I voted for Allora (the Elven Archer).
Equiped with a nice bow, she is deadly accurate. Shoots from a distance, and has some magic spells. Also she's a pathfinder (IIRC). She is the perfect marksman in the game. This is what it means to be a Spartan. It's not the killing or the suffering that matters. It's the purity of focus, without fear of death or pain.
