I bought 10.2 but haven't gotten around to installing it yet. Does anyone know if it will cause any issues with CivIII or the SMAX OSX beta? I'm an OS junkie, but for once I'm going to hold off installing till some braver soul can confirm to me that my favourite games will still work.

Echinda:
I won't be any help yet, as I'm waiting to buy a new iMac ... and that purchase, in large part, depends on just how much of Civ III ends up coming over to the Mac platform.

Well, I ended up being my own test subject and can confirm that I've experienced no problems with CivIII or SMAX under Jaguar. Two small issues in CivIII: (i) on Adviser screens, when the pointer changes to show that a Civilopedia entry is available, there is a momentary hesitation - same thing as occured prior to the first patch; and (ii) some battle sounds are intermittent (when my tanks rolled into Pasargadae last night all I had to listen to was that cheesy Modern Age music - Chairman Mao was not pleased). No issues at all with SMAX.
I have to admit, though, that I'm still running the 1.17 build of CivIII, so I'll post an update after I get around to installing the most recent patch. As for SMAX, I'm using Bradman's OSX beta.
Oh yeah - I'm running an iMac G3-600 with 256 megs of RAM. The install was smooth with no major hiccups (but long - 45 minutes or so). What's so funny 'bout peace, love and understanding?

Sorry, can't help ya. I switched from a PC to a Mac last year and unfortunately my CivII was the PC version. But I can tell you that my wife bought a bunch of older Mac games for my kids and they all run fine under straight OS 9.2 (it's about 50/50 whether they'll run well in Classic mode but rebooting in a different OS is pretty simple). What's so funny 'bout peace, love and understanding?

Echinda:
Any insight is better than none, IMHO. Thanks ... I'll leave the rest up to when I get around to buying one of those new iMacs. Heh. Looks like it was a good idea to wait ... they now have 17" monitors and the 10.2 OS.

Sure, rub in the fact that I switched to an iMac a mere five months before the flat screens were introduced. D'oh.
It will be at least two years before I can convince my wife we need a new computer, so no flat screen for me in the near future. What's so funny 'bout peace, love and understanding?

yeah, as you seem to have discovered, no real issues with 10.2. watch out though, 10.2 does NOT come with any flavor of 9. save any install discs you have for classic. apple is quickly working to phase it out. just a heads up.

Lateralis:
Well, heck. I guess that means Civ II won't be playable on a brand-new iMac unless I can acquire 9.x separately. That's a pain in the butt.
I hope they bring 1.29 patch and Play the World over to the Mac, otherwise the platform will have only a "stunted" version of Civ III available for it.

Gatekeeper... that's what I'm waiting for as well... (as far as the PTW and 1.29 patch) prior to my buying CivIII at all.
And Echinda... I feel your pain... I've got a Y2K model G4-500 tower and have yet to have any luck convincing my wife we need to start saving up for a new computer.
Though I have convinced her that we should get the .Mac subscription and OS X.2 soon.I'm not conceited, conceit is a fault and I have no faults...
Civ and WoW are my crack... just one... more... turn...

well - stunted or not - I enjoy playing CivIII and I'm still using the first patch. All these guys who lament about "unplayable" should watch that bit in "The Princess Bride" where Fezzik tells the Sicilian "You keep using that word -- I don't think it means what you think it means."What's so funny 'bout peace, love and understanding?
