  • anyone ever thought of a MoM style MMORPG?

This just occurred to me recently. Imagine one of those games where if you get really up there in levels, you can choose to expend a lot of time and energy becoming a sorcerer and become able to cast overland spells. Imagine that a bunch of others decide they don't want you getting powerful and try to take you down. You could hire various characters with some gold or equipment to defend you or expand your territory. You get the gold from the taxes of a town you control (you tyrant, you), and the game would be set up so that it would be extremely difficlt to be effective in overland spell casting without additional sources of magic - the nodes.

this all came to me in a flash - what do you think?

Could you please define MMORPG? I get the Role-Playing-Game... but MMO?

MMORPG = Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game.
      Also known as split personality.
MMORPG's are playable if and only if you devote a few hours every day (night) to it. I tried to play them casually and found it impossible as I have a life besides.
Now giving the ability to cast global spells in MMORPGs may not exist, but it sure existed in MUDs (multi user dungeons) which are their ancestors, albeit text-based ones.
And why would you hire heroes who are players when you could summon sky drakes to kill the puny players that would get in your way?

Soo... MMORPG is something like Ultima Online? I've never played those. I would want to, but my only access to the net is at my office, and I don't like to play games here

But MOM in that kind of environment would be most definitely a success. Heck, even I could consider myself connecting pernanently to the net...

Great idea, and perhaps something like that will come out sooner or later...
