  • tips for multi player newbie

Hi I am Mr Bunny. I love Civ II and I am on a Mac, and I'd just like to say hi to
the other nine (?) most important, smartest people on the planet. I've posted a couple threads/ questions in the civII general/help forums. I was just looking for some tips on getting into multiplayer games. Am reading old posts but i just "got" here and theres a lot of stuff to check out. Thanks fer any tips and I look forward to invading your cities someday.

    Mr Bunny

Hello and welcome! We're right now trying to put together a Mac game of CivII in one of the other threads here... you might want to try and check it out.

The first, critical 2do for you is to download and install the Civ2 Mac patch 1.1.1 per Smash's post on the General/Help forum. You cannot play MP with PC'ers without this. (Note: Even in Mac-only world, IIRC you still need everyone to have the same version of MGE for everything to work smoothly/at all in an MP game).

As far as getting into MP, there are several active groups on this site. Go to the Civ2 Multiplayer forum and check a few of the threads. I know there's a Friday night group who's always ready to welcome some fresh meat Look for a thread called "Setting Up IP Games XXXV." rah is the usual host. These are one-night affairs with slight rules mods to speed things up (mainly double production).

Both rah and (Apolyton forum moderator) Ming often play Saturday nights as well. On the Multiplaying forum, you'll see several other ongoing activities.

BTW, check out the Civ2 Democratic Games forum when you get a chance. This is a fairly chaotic group of about 50 people who are playing a single cooperative Civ2 game. There are monthly elections of President and cabinet posts, and citizens vote in polls (when they feel like it) to determine future actions, which are then more-or-less carried out by our leaders. An easy way to get involved in the Civ2 community.

Nice to meet you, Mr Bunny. Great to see another Mac user on the site.
      Looking forward to crossing swords...

Welcome, MB, and hope we can play a game when you get everything squared away.

Thanks for the tips. I believe i downloaded and installed the patch a couple of months ago (as the installer is still sitting in my folder) and the get info command shows my version as being 1.1.1. Should I just reinstall just to be safe? Or does it saying 1.1.1 mean it's installed?
I'm finishing up a computer game that I've really learned some stuff on, in conjunction with all the stuff i've read in Great Library etc. my last score was 717% (at diety level) and this game I will blow that away, so i figure I'm ready to start getting slaughtered by humans. Maybe tonight i'll poke around. I would still like to know how long a MP game takes though, what the range is.

Not a bad score at all for a rookie
